xBackup Allows You to Completely Backup Cydia with One Tap

Apple has been dropping firmware updates like they were going out of style lately. Just 2 months after iOS 4.3 was released, a third update is on the horizon. Luckily, the jailbreaks are keeping up with the releases, but are you?

While most folks don't appreciate rebuilding their iPhone, I relish it. I love starting with a clean slate and making my iPhone look completely different than it did before. If you haven't upgraded to a recent firmware in fear of losing all of your stuff in Cydia, check this out...

How to Untether RedSn0w Jailbreak for Verizon iPhone Running iOS 4.2.7

If you've jailbroken your Verizon iPhone 4 on iOS 4.2.7 with RedSn0w, you know that you've only got a tethered jailbreak. Lucky for you, there's a new Cydia package that allows you to untether your currently tethered RedSn0w jailbreak.

Following the update to Sn0wBreeze for the Verizon iPhone, an untether solution has been pushed for RedSn0w users and is now available in Cydia.

Mario Look-A-Like Visits the App Store

Most people agree that if something looks like a duck, smells like a duck, and tastes like a duck, then it's a duck. That cliche saying doesn't seem to fit so well in this situation. Monino looks like Mario, sounds and acts like Mario, but he sure isn't Mario.

The application some how snuck into the App Store and has been making noise around the internet ever since. It isn't garnering attention for its amazing game play, but for the amazing amount of copyright and trademark laws it seems to be breaking. How long do you think it'll survive in the App Store?

Cydia Creator Explains Why You Should Jailbreak the iPhone

Why should you jailbreak the iPhone? That's a question that gets asked here at iDB all the time. If you consider yourself a jailbreak expert, you've most likely been asked the same question once or twice.

There's perhaps no one man more qualified to answer that question than Jay Freeman, a.k.a. "saurik." Saurik created Cydia- the hub of the jailbreak world. He is the man responsible for what the jailbreak community has become today.

ScreenSaver Gives Your iPhone… Well… You Get the Idea

It's not real hard to figure out what an app called ScreenSaver does. The Cydia application has been making some noise around the web the last few days, so we figured we should mention it on iDB.

For those who don't know, ScreenSaver takes .mov files stored in its Library folder and automatically plays them when the iPhone auto-locks itself. It sounds pretty cool, but does it really work as advertised?

Auto Location Will Automatically Turn the iPhone’s Location Services On and Off

Are you still a little paranoid about the iPhone location-tracking file? Are you afraid that Apple or your carrier is tracking your every move?

Lucky for you, there's a new jailbreak tweak called Auto Location that automatically toggles your iPhone's Location Services on and off. When you're not using an app that requires GPS, Auto Location will turn the iPhone's Location Services off. When you open an app that requires Location Services, Auto Location turns it back on...

‘MyApps’ Makes it Easier to Find Jailbreak Apps And Tweaks From Specific Developers

Have you ever found a tweak so ridiculously useful, so incredible helpful, so indubitably beneficial, that you wanted to find and download every other app or tweak from that developer?

I've found myself in that boat quite a few times over the years, and usually it results in something resembling a search and rescue mission with the help of Google.

If there's one feature that Cydia needs, it needs a "more by this developer" section, so that we can find more apps from a particular developer that we've grown fond of.

Until that day comes, there is a stopgap app that has been released on the Cydia store entitled MyApps. Does it fit the bill until Saurik gives us the real thing?

Cydia Finally Back Online

Cydia is finally back online! Literally, after 86 hours of downtime due to Amazon's EC2 outage, Cydia is up and running.

Cydia's founder, saurik (aka Jay Freeman), announced the good news via Twitter. You will now be able to proceed with regular Cydia operations, such as purchasing packages, use of the Theme Center, and managing your Cydia accounts...

Cydia Operating “Below Capacity,” Saurik Updates Homepage with News about Amazon EC2 Outage

Cydia's backend has been extensively affected by Amazon's EC2 outage. Towards the end of last week, Amazon's popular EC2 cloud computing service went offline and affected many heavily-trafficked services across the internet.

When EC2 went under, Cydia's store and account infrastructure went with it. Any type of account activity remained unavailable until EC2 slowly started kicking back in over the weekend.

Cydia's creator and admin, saurik, has posted an update to Cydia's homepage explaining the issues that Cydia has been experiencing for the past 84+ hours.

Jailbreak Tweak Adds #NowPlaying Feature to Tweetbot

Some of the things that pop into the Cydia store amaze me. Innovation can really flourish in an environment like Cydia where there are little restrictions to hold developers back. Untrackerd is a perfect example of that innovation.

But jailbreaking is not just good for disrupting Apple's hidden tracking service, it's also good for customizing your iOS and downloaded tweaks to make your life easier. The jailbreak tweak I'm about to mention falls in the latter category, by making a great app even better...

How to Unlock iPhone 4.3.2 with UltraSn0w [Tutorial]

The iPhone Dev Team has updated the UltraSn0w unlock tool with support for iOS 4.3.2. You can use PwnageTool to jailbreak your iPhone and preserve your baseband for the latest UltraSn0w unlock.

The latest release of UltraSn0w does not support new basebands, it only fixes compatibility issues with already-unlocked iPhones. In this tutorial, we'll show you how to install the latest version of UltraSn0w to unlock your iPhone running iOS 4.3.2.

UltraSn0w Unlock for iPhone 4.3.2 Released

Following the release of the updated PwnageTool 4.3.2 jailbreak tool, the iPhone Dev Team has also pushed out an update to the UltraSn0w unlock in Cydia.

UltraSn0w 1.2.2 has been released to support the new iOS 4.3.2 firmware, as the previous version of UltraSn0w (1.2.1) was broken in iOS 4.3.2. Please note, this will only work for the older iPhone 4 baseband 1.59.00, and iPhone 3G/3GS  basebands 4.26.08, 5.11.07, 5.12.01, 5.13.04, and 6.15.00. It can not unlock newer basebands since there is currently no unlock available.
