Longstanding bug causes iOS devices to crash after playing a maliciously crafted video

YouTuber EverythingApplePro has has been sharing a bug in iOS which causes any iPhone, iPad or iPod touch to glitch out after playing a malicious video link in Safari. The device will first slow to a crawl before freezing or crashing altogether, requiring a hard reset. This appears to be a longstanding bug because iPhones and other iOS devices running iOS 5 were found to be affected by the glitch.

As noted on Reddit, the top level domains that are currently hosting the glitchy video are vk.com and testtrial.site90.net.

Spotify to fix a bug in desktop app causing massive data writes that could reduce SSD lifespan

Spotify's desktop app for Mac, Windows and Linux has been found to be continuously writing massive amounts of data to local storage for no apparent reason—even when the app is simply sitting idle. As noted in Spotify's support forum, on Reddit and elsewhere, users are seeing the desktop app write tens of gigabytes of data to local storage every minute or so. On systems outfitted with SSDs like most Macs, excessive data writes can reduce the lifetime of flash storage.

That's because SSDs have a finite amount of write capacity and are prone to wear and tear. A Spotify spokesperson told ArsTechnica that a fix was underway via an update that's being rolled out as we speak.

A fix for issues with 2nd and 3rd generation Apple TV is coming soon

It seems that the most recent Apple TV software update has rendered a lot of second and third-generation Apple TVs virtually unusable, with the set-top box device's Home screen displaying only the Computers, Music and Settings apps with no other channel options available.

According to a thread on Reddit, an Apple representative has confirmed that a fix for the bug will be included in a future software update for the Apple TV. Users can manually check if any new firmware update is available at any time through the Settings app.

As noted in the screenshot above, 10.0.3 brings about various bug fixes, including one for an issue where users could temporarily lose cellular connectivity. This has been a fairly high profile iPhone 7 bug, particularly among Verizon users.

In addition to iTunes 12.4.3 and new OS beta releases, a revamped Remote app for the Apple TV with support for Siri voice input, Game Mode and other perks has released on the App Store for everyone to use.

iTunes 12.4 bug causing Apple Music playback issues with tracks shorter than 60 seconds

There seems to be a bug in iTunes 12.4 which causes playback issues with Apple Music tracks shorter than 60 seconds, MacRumors reported today.

The problem allegedly stems from a buffering bug that apparently causes iTunes to never begin downloading the next song in the queue if it's shorter than 60 seconds. Basically, iTunes is left waiting for a download to finish that has in fact never started. The bug has been reported to Apple and we expect it to be fixed in a future iTunes update.

Weird iOS bug permits unlimited photo zooming

Apple's stock Photos app has a lot of nicely implemented features and it gets used a lot on my iPhone 6s, but I'm still yearning for the ability to zoom on photos unlimitedly, using the pinch-zoom gesture.

Zooming in Photos isn't possible beyond a certain threshold and that's been ticking me off for quite some time now. Curiously, there appears to be a bug in iOS which overrides this behavior and lets you zoom unlimitedly on a photo.

As first noted by MacRumors 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners who have not installed iOS 9.3.2 no longer see the over-the-air update on their tablet.

Apple engineers visited a user to figure out why iTunes deleted his music

Following James Pinkstone's viral blog post about a nasty glitch in iTunes causing the application to inadvertently delete music from some personal libraries, Apple flew two engineers from across the country to visit him at his house in order to try to figure out why Apple Music and iTunes Match would wipe out 122 gigabytes of his personal music collection. In a follow-up post, Pinkstone explained that the engineers, named Tom and Ezra, spent the day at his house in an attempt to research the issue.

Apple is ‘looking’ into reports of iOS 9.3.2 bricking some 9.7-inch iPad Pros

Following multiple complaints that the iOS 9.3.2 software update, which released two days ago, has bricked some 9.7-inch iPad Pro models with ‘Error 56’, Apple today acknowledged that it's aware of these reports and is “looking” into them.

Although Apple's statement to iMore does not make it clear whether the company has pinpointed what might be causing this issue, the company did advise those unable to restore their device through iTunes to contact its support team.

iOS 9.3.2 reportedly bricking some 9.7-inch iPad Pro models with ‘Error 56’

It appears that today's iOS 9.3.2 update is causing problems for some 9.7-inch iPad Pro owners. As noted by MacRumors, a number of users have taken to Twitter and other forums to complain that the firmware bricked their tablets shortly after installing the over-the-air update.

More specifically, users are seeing an "Error 56" message, which instructs you to plug your device into iTunes. According to some of those who have received the error, however, plugging the tablet into your computer and trying to restore through iTunes doesn't resolve the issue.
