Microsoft OneNote for iOS update untethers iPad app from PC

Good news today for users of Microsoft's popular OneNote application; the company just posted a major update for the iOS client. Now, the update itself isn't huge, but it features some significant improvements that will change how you use the tablet app.

Up until now, you couldn’t create new notebooks from the iPad, so you always had to defer to the desktop or web version of it at some point. But with today’s update, Microsoft has added this and other features, essentially making it standalone software...

BlackBerry says it submitted BBM to App Store two weeks ago

The official BlackBerry Messenger app for iPhone is on the way, according to the Canadian-based company. Alex Kinsella, a Senior Manager who is working on the software, tweeted out this afternoon that BBM for iPhone has been submitted to the App Store.

In fact, Kinsella says his team submitted the app for review two weeks ago, meaning it's basically up to Apple now when we'll see it made available. And it'll be interesting to see what happens here, as the company has a history of blocking big releases...

Twitter puts Twitter into Twitter #music

After updating its official iOS client with the somewhat controversial conversation redesign (hint: blue lines), the micro-blogging service Twitter now turns its attention to its music discovery app, Twitter #music. In a new update issued Friday, Twitter #music now shows tweets along with each track right in your #NowPlaying feed.

"We've put the Twitter into Twitter #music," the company boasted. That's not all, as these tweets are fully actionable, which makes me wonder whether the company will eventually fold the #music app into the Twitter mobile client down the road...

Ancient Battle: Rome puts you on the battlefield with Caesar himself

Battling against mounted armies with nothing but a spear and a shield may seem unfair, but all is fair in love and war, or so they say. When the odds are against you, fight harder.

Ancient Battle: Rome is a strategy turn-based game that puts you in command of Roman legionaries in classic battles of old. Prepare your troops for attack because this war will not end well…

Good deal: name your own price for this Mac software bundle

Now normally, when you see a 'name your own price' deal you think: what's the catch? At least that's what I think. If I really get to name my own price for something, can I just say $1? That's not usually the case, but it is with this new Stack Social promo.

The deal site is offering up 3 Mac apps—Airy, My Living Desktop and Compartments—that usually cost a combined $60, for literally whatever you want to pay. The only thing is your offer must be $1 or above, and if it's $12 or more, you get more apps...

DeskConnect review: how to share files between all of your devices

These days, it is fairly easy to share things with other devices through cloud storage. However, those services are usually limited in size. Plus, it takes a few steps to grab a file, save it to a cloud storage app, then go to another device, open the cloud storage app, find the file, and download it.

DeskConnect makes it possible to easily share all kinds of media across multiple devices without having to save it in the cloud first. There are no limits on number of devices, storage capacity, or file type. Just drag-and-drop and you’re ready to go…

Redesigned Google Drive app brings card-style thumbnail layout from Android

Major PayPal iOS update: new UI, pay at local shops, save offers and order ahead

It's been months since PayPal issued any significant update to its iPhone client. Today, the company took to the official blog to announce a brand new version of PayPal for iPhone, a major step up compared to the previous basic version.

In addition to the revamped interface, the refreshed software features front and center a new Shop section which makes it easy to find shops or restaurants nearby that accept PayPal payments. That's just scratching the surface: the new build finally lets you check out at your local stores, pay at table, order ahead and even browse for local offers.

As a bonus, the application now makes it possible to switch payment methods on the go to make sure you get reward points from a particular card. Another useful capability: the popular Bill Me Later payment option has been added. I've included additional information and PayPal's promotional video past the fold...

Pure Chess review: skeuomorphism is back in this traditional game

Chess is about a thousand years old. It has undergone only minimal changes to become the board game that it is today. It is played around the world and has even had tomes written about it.

Pure Chess is a new app that features the ancient game. It is designed with hyper-realism, but surprisingly still looks compatible with iOS 7’s anti-skeuomophic theme...

And that's the big news here—this new subscription option. The social network is looking to ramp up its monetization efforts with a $14.99 per year Premium subscription service that gives users full access to stickers, filters and more...

Junk Jack X takes sandbox gaming to a whole new level

Sandbox games are this month’s big to-do. Maybe it was just a coincidence, but two Minecraft-like world-building games hit iOS at the same time last week and they are both making a name for themselves in the gaming community.

Junk Jack X is the follow up game to PixBits’ original title Junk Jack. Players dig up materials, create new buildings, and share their adventures with others. The big debate now is, which one is better, Junk Jack X or Terraria…
