Mobile-exclusive Civilization Revolution 2 now available on iOS

As promised, publishing label 2K Games and developer Firaxis today released Sid Meier's Civilization Revolution 2, a mobile exclusive game filed as the long-awaited sequel to the iOS and console port of the 2008 PC original, Civilization Revolution, which was a turn-based strategy game.

The game is now available in the App Store as a premium $14.99 download for the iPhone and iPad.

With new units, new technology, new buildings and wonders, updated 3D graphics and new historic events and battles available in the Scenario Mode, Civilization Revolution 2 is a no-brainer for true fans of Sid Meier's sim games...

Vine updated with Loop Counts, revamped Activity section and more

Twitter-owned Vine's mobile app hasn't received a lot of important new features lately as the team focused on making the web interface more functional and prettier.

Today, Vine announced a cool new feature addition: Loop Counts. Now available in the just-updated Vine for iPhone version 2.1, Loop Counts indicate how many times people have looped a video, including on Vine and in embeds across the web.

Vine also contains a cleaner feed with bigger videos and a revamped Activity section with new account milestones and more visual notifications and other perks...

Photos for Mac won’t be dumbed down, says Apple

Apple's surprise announcement that it will cease development of its Aperture app in favor of Photos for OS X Yosemite has left watchers scratching their head. There's also the problem of prosumers and iPhone photography enthusiasts, many of whom have grown dependent on Aperture workflows.

The problem is even more pronounced given concerns that any feature-parity between Photos on iOS 8 and the upcoming Photos for OS X Yosemite Macs would inevitably lead to significant dumbing down compared to Aperture's feature set.

Case in point: the iWork for iCloud effect.

Anyway, Apple has now official confirmed via a written statement that Photos for Mac will include certain pro-grade features such as photo editing, image search and third-party effects and plugins...

Microsoft now encrypts your OneDrive connections and Outlook emails

Microsoft's OneDrive (formerly SkyDrive) is great if you need to store your files in the cloud and sync them between devices seamlessly. And with the recently introduced 15GB free tier, OneDrive has become even more competitive compared to Dropbox and its pedestrian 2GB free tier.

Also, Microsoft's web-based email - which went through several rebranding efforts and is currently known as Outlook.com - has its loyal following.

Emojli is an emoji-only network that could be the next Yo

As if there weren't already enough ways to communicate with others, this month has now been witness to two different outside of the box messaging platforms. The first was a quirky new app called Yo that took the App Store by storm earlier this month with over one million users in just days. The two-character app is a simple and efficient messaging tool that solely consists of sending and receiving notifications that say Yo.

Emojli is the second, an emoji-only network looking to replicate the success of Yo from a few weeks ago. Forget text messages, hashtags, spam and trolls, and communicate solely with emojis. Emojli is now accepting username reservations on its website, which are also entirely in emoji. While the app seems like satire, its creators Matt Gray and Tom Scott claim it will be launching on iOS soon and other platforms later…

A big part of what makes iOS 8 so great is how Apple is finally opening up its mobile operating system to developers, more than ever before.

Take Touch ID, for example. With a little help from the iOS 8 SDK and the new Local Authentication Framework, third-party apps can tap Touch ID to authenticate a user in a safe manner as fingerprint data is protected and never accessed by iOS or apps.
