Do you hate digging around in menus but have trouble memorizing all the key combinations for your most frequently used programs? Hotkeys is an app that allows you to use your iPad as a programmable shortcut keyboard, which comes with shortcut packs for Mac OS X and Photoshop preloaded.

While the preloaded packs are decent, you can also edit the packs to your liking or create your own packs from scratch. If you're a gamer, you might also find the labelled shortcuts handy...

Pirates download wrong Installous from the App Store, then complain about it

Installous, the pirate app store that allowed those so inclined to download iOS apps for free may already be long gone, but that hasn't stopped plenty of people downloading it from the App Store. Or at least, they thought they had.

See, there's a new Installous in town, and it's by a developer called Larisa Flora. It's not the Installous you're thinking of though – this one's a game which involves gears and colors, apparently.

What it's not, is a way of ripping off developers. And people are not happy at all...

The NRA releases controversial Practice Range app, for ages 4 and up

The National Rifle Association, a US organization that promotes firearm ownership, safety and self-defense, has released an app for iOS entitled NRA: Practice Range. The app contains several links to different NRA resources, but the focus is obviously on its built-in mini game.

The game itself isn't anything special, it's a shooting range that offers 3 gameplay modes: Indoor Range, Outdoor Range and Skeet Shoot. But what seems to be causing waves in the tech community today are its in-app assault weapons upgrades, and its 'ages 4 and up' App Store rating...

Hands-on with pod2g’s first App Store app, podDJ

When someone mentions the name pod2g, likely the first thing that comes to your mind is jailbreaking the iPhone. That, obviously, makes sense, when you consider that pod2g was one of the primary reasons we've been able to jailbreak our iOS device's in the past. His ingenuity provided us with jailbreaks for the iPhone 4S and iPad 3, and many are hoping that he can work his same magic on the iPhone 5 along with iOS 6.

But cast aside those thoughts of jailbreaking for a moment. Forget the hacks, apps, and tweaks that we're benefitted with because of pod2g's hard work. Instead, try to focus on the legendary hacker's latest endeavor. Admittedly, it's a bit of a departure from the norm, but pod2g has created an official app that he's currently selling on Apple's App Store.

While pod2g, known amongst family and friends as Cyril, isn't the first known hacker to release an official app to Apple's ecosystem, he is by far the most prominent member of the jailbreak community to do so. And the thing is, this isn't just some random app that people will buy only because of the developer behind the project. No, this is a legitimate attempt that's been well coded and well designed, and it should sell on merit alone.

As you've already seen from our previous post, podDJ is the name of the app, and it's an iPad release that allows you to DJ directly from your device. Of course, we've gone hands-on with podDJ on video, so be sure to check inside for the full synopsis...

Apple now locking App Store screenshots to cut down on scamming

Have you ever downloaded an app on your iPhone or iPad, and it didn't look anything like the screenshots in the App Store? If so, you wouldn't be alone. Switching screenshots after Apple has approved an app has become a popular tactic for scammers.

But we have some good news this afternoon. Apple announced to developers today that, starting this week, all App Store screenshots will be locked after they are approved. And they'll stay that way until a developer submits a binary for an app update...

eBay app updated with more streamlined listing process and more

Popular auction site eBay updated its iOS client last night, bringing the app to version 2.7. The renewed app features several changes and enhancements, including an improved photo flow with new editing tools, and speedier checkouts.

But if, like me, you're in the habit of selling your old Apple gadgets to help pay for new ones, you'll be really excited to see what they've done with the listing process. Posting things for sale on the site from your iPhone just got a lot faster...

Apple should buy social nav app Waze to improve Maps data

When it comes to apps, nothing strikes a nerve more than mapping. We saw this when Apple Maps literally and figuratively drove off a cliff, only later to be saved by Google Maps. Needless to say, having Apple's fat pulled out of the fire by its chief rival didn't make execs in Cupertino too happy.

That's the backstory behind the latest mapping rumor afloat: the potential acquisition by Apple of social navigation app Waze. According to reports, Apple is in fact considering purchasing Waze.

Their iPhone app crowdsources the positions of moving cars to turn the mundane task of finding locations into a social game. Waze, already a partner with Apple Maps, has likely gained the iPhone maker's attention when iOS 6 Maps was going down in flames...

YouTube, Google Maps top list of most downloaded apps on Christmas Day

Given the fact that millions of iPhones, iPads and iPod touches were given as gifts this year, and that a number of apps and games were on sale, it's no surprise that there was a huge spike in app downloads on Tuesday.

In fact, app analytics firm Distimo found that daily downloads in the App Store increased by 87% on Christmas Day compared to the December 2012 average. So what was everyone downloading? Read on to find out...

New app uses iPhone’s vibrate motor to take hands-free 360-degree video

Up until now, if you wanted to shoot 360-degree video with your iPhone, you'd either need a snap-on accessory, like the GoPano, or a pair of steady hands and some patience. But a clever new app is looking to change that.

Introducing Cycloramic, an iPhone app that uses the handset's built-in vibrate motor to spin it around in a circle, allowing you to capture 360-degree video, completely hands free. Hard to believe? Check out the video demo...

Chinese court orders Apple to pay $165K in copyright dispute

For the second time in the last 6 months, a Chinese court has found Apple to be liable for the sale of unlicensed works distributed through the App Store. Back in September, it was ordered to pay $82K for the violation, and this time it's double that.

A judge from Beijing's Second Intermediate People's Court on Thursday ordered Apple to pay 1.03 million yuan, or roughly $165,000, to a group of writers who claimed their work was pirated, repurposed as an app and sold through the App Store...
