IMDb app updated with Amazon Instant Video links and new Oscar section

Amazon-owned IMDb issued a nice little update for its iOS app last night. The update, which brings the app to version 3.1, adds a handful of new features, including a new Oscar section—just in time for the Award show this Sunday.

Also on the list of additions are new direct links for titles that can be viewed on Amazon's Instant Video service (if the app is installed), a new 'Recommendations' facet that will offer up suggested movie/TV show content, and more...

Haze: a gorgeous gesture-controlled weather app for minimalists

Taking a look at some of the more popular titles in the App Store—Clear, Mailbox, Tempo—it's clear that minimalism and multitouch gestures are in right now. Developers are ditching heavy graphics in favor of much simpler interfaces.

For the most part, people seem to like the new trend. And if you fall into that category, you might want to check out Haze. It's a new iPhone weather app that exudes these two qualities. It's gesture-controlled, and has a very minimal UI...

Use 3G Unrestrictor to enable streaming over cellular in Tweetbot

Tweetbot, my favorite Twitter client by a country mile, takes well advantage of Twitter's streaming API for instant timeline updates with no manual refresh. It works very well, but unfortunately Tweetbot requires you to be connected to Wi-Fi in order to use the feature. What to do now? Fake a Wi-Fi connection, of course!

3G Unrestrictor has many uses, and one such use is to enable Twitter streaming in Tweetbot over a cellular connection. Check out our brief video inside.

Real Racing 3 hands-on

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23YkqG0lG98

EA surprised us and dropped the Firemonkeys developed Real Racing 3 a few weeks earlier than its scheduled release in some territories. We were fortunate enough to be able to go hands-on with the highly anticipated sequel to iOS' darling racing game franchise.

While we're just beginning to progress through the game, some things were readily apparent. Yes, Real Racing 3 is a so-called freemium game, and EA is hoping that you will open your wallets as you make speedy progress through the game. We also found that the "online" experience is heavily watered down. In fact, I'd hesitate to actually call it online at all, as it's actually more of an asynchronous affair, which pits you against your friend's "ghost" racers instead.

Although the freemium aspect and the lack of true realtime head-to-head play may disappoint, the game tries to make up for it with its stunning visuals. This is hands-down the best looking iOS game I've ever seen or played. It's just an absolute visual overdose. The game looks wonderful on the iPad mini, and the iPhone 4, but to really appreciate its beauty, fire it up on a Retina enabled full-sized iPad. Trust me when I say this, you'll be picking your jaw up off the floor.

Latest Bump update turns your iPhone into a flash drive

Bump has really come a long way since it debuted in the App Store back in 2009. The app, which once only allowed users to exchange contact information, now facilitates the sharing of photos, documents and even Dropbox files between mobile devices.

But the latest update looks to take Bump to a whole new level, with a revamped 'Bump to PC' feature. Users can now move files between their iPhones (or Android phones), and any computer, effectively turning their handsets into a personal flash drive...

Slacker iPhone app gets major makeover in brand relaunch

If someone asks you what a good streaming music service is, who do you recommend? Pandora? Rdio? Spotify? What about Slacker Radio? Yeah, despite the fact that the company has been around for 6 years, Slacker rarely gets mentioned in the same breath as the others.

But it's looking to change that. Yesterday, Slacker Radio essentially relaunched itself as a brand—touting complete redesigns of its web and mobile clients. The new iPhone app looks particularly sharp, with a revamped visual interface and new Slacker "Music Guide" feature...

Rdio app updated with new design and other improvements

Rdio, one of the more popular streaming music subscription services on the market, released a solid update to their iOS app this afternoon, making it quicker and easier to browse and interact with your content.

Version 2.1 of the application features some gorgeous new design touches, and some other cool enhancements like a new long press-activated content menu, and music badges. The full change log is after the fold...

Mailbox review: an email app that thinks different

Email on iOS is a mess, or that's at least what many app developers with the next big thing want us to believe. For me, it's not just that email is a mess on iOS, it's that email is a mess in general, regardless of the platform.

My philosophy has always been to just manage the email situation well enough, so that I'm not overtaken by its voracious appetite for more of my time. I've never been a so-called "inbox zero" ninja, and never really thought I was capable of doing so...until now.

Indeed, I was fortunate enough to get in a bit early on the Mailbox waiting list. The question is, if you're still waiting, is your pining over access to the app warranted, or will your wait turn into fermented disappointment? Full review, inside.

4chan founder releases community-based iPad app ‘DrawQuest’

Looking around the collection of image boards known as 4chan, it's hard to believe that the same person responsible for creating that, also created the app you see above. But it's true, this is 4chan founder Chris Poole's latest project: DrawQuest.

The premise of the app is pretty simple. Users are given daily 'drawing quests,' where they are asked to complete drawings by using only the tools provided. And once they're done, they can share their drawings, view others' artwork and more...

Tamagotchi attempts comeback in upcoming iOS app

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past 10 years, chances are you know what a Tamagotchi is. The digital-pet-on-a-keychain was released by video game-maker Bandai in 1996, and has since sold more than 76 million units.

The fad, however, like an unfed digital pet, has passed away in recent years. But it looks like the popular toy is getting ready to make a comeback. Bandai has announced its upcoming title for iOS and Android called Tamagotchi L.i.f.e...
