France Telecom CEO Hints at “Smaller and Thinner” iPhone with Smaller SIM Card

In a recent interview, the CEO of French Telecom/Orange, Stephane Richard, dropped some hits towards a "smaller and thinner" iPhone 5 with a different SIM card design. Instead of the traditional method, Apple has apparently agreed with wireless carriers to support a smaller and more lightweight SIM for the next iPhone.

Practically, this smaller SIM card would make the iPhone thinner. There is also the possibility that such a SIM card could work in tandem with the rumored 'global device' that Apple could release this year.

When Apple launched the first iPad a little over a year ago, it introduced a fairly new SIM format called Micro SIM. A few months later, those Micro SIMs were also implemented in the iPhone 4. Smaller in size compared to the standard Mini SIMs, Micro SIMs do the exact same job while using less space.

We recently told you about the Gevey SIM interposer, a TurboSIM-like piggy back sim card that allows you to unlock any iPhone 4. When we first wrote about it, we raised concerns about the legality of this method, and warned you that your carrier might not like you using this.

Today, MuscleNerd confirmed that the Gevey SIM is indeed illegal in the US and most likely in other countries because it dials the 112 emergency number and hangs up right away...

Last week we told you about the Gevey SIM which basically unlocks any iPhone 4. Today, a video confirms that the Gevey SIM can unlock any iPhone 4 on any iOS and any baseband. This means that if you have an iPhone 4 4.3 with baseband 04.10.01, the Gevey SIM will work for you too.

Gevey SIM Interposer Confirmed Working on iPhone 4 on T-Mobile USA

Last week, the Gevey Team announced their SIM Interposer for the iPhone 4. This SIM Interposer would provide the long awaited iPhone 4 unlock or Baseband 2.10.04 and 3.10.01.

Although there was some speculation as to whether this SIM Interposer was legit or not, today a reader over at Redmond Pie has provided evidence showing an iPhone 4 with 2.10.04 baseband running on T-Mobile USA's network using the Gevey SIM Interposer.

Last month we got words that Apple was looking into dumping iPhone carriers by creating a unique SIM card that would be integrated inside the phone and that would allow people to buy the iPhone directly from Apple and choose a carrier via the App Store.

At the time I wrote about this, my concern was that carriers wouldn't be too happy about this move that would completely set them aside from the deal. It seems that I was right, as most carriers are telling Apple to go back to the drawing board, or else they might stop selling the iPhone...
