Is This an iPhone 5 Prototype?

It would seem like the iPhone 5 rumor mill has been in full swing over the past few days. We've seen everything from cases to concepts. Now, 9to5Mac is claiming they have pictures of the real thing.

The same blog that brought us the leaked photos of the purported iPhone 5 case has just published a photo of what they believe to be Apple's next smartphone. It certainly fits the typical "leaked photo" criteria, as it's extremely blurry and hard to make out. Could this really be the iPhone 5?

Apple Thinking of Acquiring Barnes & Noble?

BGR has reported that an unproven source has knowledge that Apple has had recent discussions of purchasing Barnes & Noble. This might seem odd at first, but it would be a good move. Apple would be able to use Barnes & Noble's expansive collection of eBooks for their iBooks store.

Apple May Release a Cheaper iPad This Year

More rumors are circulating today that Apple is getting ready to launch a new, cheaper iPad later this year, with three new hardware partners joining the manufacturing chain.

The ever sometimes reliable DigiTimes believes that the three new partners have been brought on board to help drop the manufacturing costs of the next iPad, with Apple aiming to compete with a lower price point than its current model....

Alleged iPhone “Lite” Leaked Online, And It’s Jailbroken

Take this one with a huge grain of salt, but TechCrunch is reporting that it's received leaked shots of a "light version of the iPhone 4." These pictures of what looks very much like a jailbroken iPhone 4 come from Tinhte, and TechCrunch makes the point that Tinhte got a white iPhone 4 prototype right with a leaked video back in April.

This iPhone 4 prototype is made of a cheaper build quality, and it matches up pretty well with a couple iPhone 5 case leaks that we reported on yesterday. However, the device doesn't seem to be any smaller than the current iPhone 4...

iPhone 5 Launch in Second Week of September, iPad 3 to Follow Shortly After

According to China Times, the iPhone 5 is set to be released in the second week of September with an opening order of 4 million units. This speculation lines up with current predictions.

According to suppliers, 400,000 trial units are currently being prepared. The news report goes on to say that the next generation iPad may be delayed until Thanksgiving due to component shortages...

Purported iPhone 5 Case Leaked

Yesterday, we showed you some renderings of a purported iPhone 5 case, leaked by a Chinese accessory manufacturer. Today, we don't just have drawings- we have an actual product.

9to5Mac just published photos of what they believe to be an actual iPhone 5 case. The accessory matches previous reports that Apple's next smartphone will sport a thinner design, with a curved back and a larger display...

Apple Investigating Solar Cells For Future iDevices

Apple and one of its main smartphone competitors, Samsung, are looking into the idea of using solar power in future devices, according to the ever (un)reliable DigiTimes.

While it will probably be a long time before this becomes a reality, the technology would let solar cells become part of iPhones, iPads and other devices...

Amazon’s Future Tablet Will Support 8 Less Fingers Than the iPad

We recently told you about Amazon's upcoming consumer tablet that's set to release later this year. The rumored device is expected to be a revolutionary upgrade to the current Kindle, and it will most likely be marketed to compete directly with Apple's iPad.

Amazon has its own music, movies, books, and online retail infrastructure to go head-to-head with Apple, but what it apparently won't have is similar multi-touch support. While the iPad's touchscreen display supports 10-finger gestures, Amazon's tablet will only support 2-finger gestures...

Apple Removes 3G iPod Touch Clue From Its Website, Slipup or Something More? [Updated]

This morning we told you about an interesting clue on Apple's website that hinted at a future iPod touch equipped with 3G data connectivity. An iPod touch with a 3G signal indicator in the status bar was displayed on Apple's own website, and we thought that it was maybe just an honest mistake by someone in Apple's web design department.

Apple apparently got word of this slipup, too, and they've just replaced the very same graphic with a Wi-Fi-only iPod touch!

Face Detection Coming in iOS 5?

The folks over at 9to5Mac have found some more interesting information buried within iOS 5's code. The Mac blog that loves to expose hidden features in Apple's upcoming mobile software has just found another secret gem.

When Scott Forstall took the stage last month, he failed to mention some of iOS 5's most compelling features. iOS 5 has the ability to take panoramic pictures, recognize voice commands, and it apparently even has facial recognition software...

Alleged iPhone 5 Case Hints at Buttonless Device, Curved Back, Bigger Screen

A new prototype case for the alleged iPhone 5 has leaked via a Chinese accessory manufacturer working in conjunction with Foxconn. This case design comes from MobileFun, a UK-based site that claims to have received this information through its supply chain sources overseas.

If this alleged case design for the upcoming iPhone 5 is representative of the rumored device's design, there will be several major aesthetic changes made to Apple's next iPhone— a curved back, larger screen, and possibly even a totally buttonless design...

Did Apple Just Accidentally Confirm the 3G iPod Touch?

Earlier this month, rumors were floating around the interwebs that Apple might be working on a 3G-capable iPod touch. Just like the iPad 3G, this iPod touch would have 3G data connectivity, allowing it to get internet access from virtually anywhere there is cell coverage.

Today we received a tip from an iDB reader pointing us to a page on Apple's website clearly showing an iPod touch with a 3G icon and signal strength in the status bar. Is this a hint from Apple that the company is indeed working on an iPod touch 3G?
