Apple Expands App Subscriptions to Games

Apple unveiled its App Store subscription service in February of this year to mixed reviews. Publishers appreciated the opportunity to expand into the iOS ecosystem, and its millions of users, but they hated the terms.

The company has since revised its in-app subscription policy, and the service has grown to be moderately successful. So successful, in fact, that Apple has decided to open up the service to game developers as well...

What’s On My iPhone 4S? Gaming Edition

If you're a gamer, then the iPhone 4S upgrade is worth it for that reason alone. Games run much smoother, and in some cases they've been upgraded to take advantage of the new hardware.

The iOS platform is ridiculously good for games, but an iPhone 4S makes playing them even sweeter. Inside, I'll share some of the games I'm playing right now on my iPhone 4S...

Get Your NFL Game On With Flick Quarterback for iPhone

Looking for a way to get right in the middle of NFL action this year? Flick Quarterback for the iPhone might be just what you're looking for. The game was created by Full Fat, the developers behind other hit iOS titles like Flick Soccer and Flick Golf.

The app is currently listed as the App Store's "Game of the Week," and features all 32 NFL teams. It's based on the same flick motion controls that have made the other Flick games so successful, and has tons of NFL-specific features...

The Only Game Apple Ever Made For the App Store is Now Dead

Apple has killed the only game it ever made for the App Store. Texas Hold'em for iPhone is no longer available. The game originally debuted on the iPod in 2006, and Texas Hold'em was revamped with the launch of the App Store in 2008.

The game was sold for $4.99 and was last updated in September of 2008, which goes to show how much Apple cared about the title in the first place.

What is Minecraft – Pocket Edition All About?

I'll be the first to admit, I'm terrible at Minecraft. In fact, I'd never played it until just a few hours ago when I downloaded it on my iPhone.

Needless to say, you Minecraft experts will probably find this video a bit humorous, perhaps even a bit appalling.

Nevertheless, I've put myself out there in order for you to see what Minecraft - Pocket Edition is all about. Check out our video inside...

Minecraft for iPhone and iPad Now Live in the App Store [Updated]

The pocket edition of Minecraft is now available for the iPhone and iPad in the App Store. We told you that Minecraft was coming to the iOS platform a couple of months ago, and now it's finally here.

Fans of the popular game will be pleased to know that the iOS version looks and feels just like its desktop counterpart. Minecraft for iOS lacks online play support, but there's still enough world-building fun to make it an attractive download.

ATARI’s Asteroids: Gunner Now Available on the App Store

ATARI is one of the biggest and oldest names in the gaming space. Apple co-founder Steve Jobs even worked there before starting Apple way back when, and all these years later ATARI is happily releasing some great games for Apple's touch-based iOS devices.

The latest release to come out of the team at ATARI is Asteroids: Gunner, which the company describes as "a free-to-play, dual-stick action shooter for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad."

Bringing a spot of the old arcade magic to the iDevices, Asteroids: Gunner is sure to be a real hit amongst those looking for a shooter that won't break the bank, and with 150 waves of enemies, the game shouldn't be one that's over in a flash, either...

Veterans Day Weekend Brings Massive Game Sales

Veterans Day is a US holiday, celebrated every year on November 11th. It was established to honor our military veterans, and because it's a federal holiday, many people get the day off from work or school. And do you know what else it means? App sales.

Several developers have started slashing prices on their applications in honor of Veterans Day weekend. Companies like EA and Gameloft have deeply discounted some of their biggest gaming titles, with most of them falling to just under a buck...

Ever Wondered How Angry Birds Works? Take a Look at the Math Behind the Madness

Some things just blow our minds here at iDB. One such thing is the lengths some people will go to in order to analyze something that most of us find mildly interesting at best, and the epitome of that is the work WIRED's Rhett Allain has been doing on the Angry Birds games.

Now, don't take that as a sign that we don't think his research is indeed super awesome, because it is. It's just that we're not convinced we find it as awesome as Rhett does. Or, perhaps, we're just not clever enough to get our collective heads around it!

The series of posts that Rhett Allain has been working on delve into the inner workings of Angry Birds, and more importantly, into how we can better understand the game with the aim of flinging birds from catapults. Told you it was awesome...

Infinity Blade 2 to Debut in the App Store December 1st

There's no doubt that Apple's mobile operating system is becoming a major gaming platform. Yesterday, we pointed to a report that forecasted gaming revenues from iOS and Android to exceed that of the handheld divisions of both Nintendo and Sony.

Every major gaming platform has to have at least one standout title, and for iOS, that might just be Infinity Blade. With its sharp graphics and epic gameplay, the original version of the game raked in $1.6 million dollars in just 5 days. And now it's time for round two...

Android and iOS Gaming Now Worth More Than Sony and Nintendo’s Portable Divisions Combined

Just read that title again. Perhaps a third time. Ready? Let us continue.

According to new research by Flurry, a mobile analytics firm, both Sony and Nintendo's battle to own the portable gaming market may well be over sooner rather than later, and the winner might not be either of the two gaming behemoths.

See, Flurry believes that the combined pair will generate $1.4 billion in gaming revenue for the year 2011. While that's not a number to be sneezed at, it is considerably lower than the last two years. It's also lower than the revenue Flurry expects the real competition to generate, with iOS and Android gaming combined expected to rake in $1.9 billion...
