Black Tower Enigma cuts role-play gaming down to just the puzzles

For years, role-playing adventure games have captured the hearts and minds of gamers around the world. Whether you were catchin’ them all with Pokemon, helping Link rescue Zelda, or bringing back light to the world of Final Fantasy, the games all shared a deep storyline and epic adventure.

Black Tower Enigma has the same deep story development, but instead of traveling across dangerous lands to rescue the damsel in distress, players face riddles and puzzles in a tower of never-ending floors. Solve the puzzle to reveal the stairs to the next level. Eventually you will find your damsel.

Halloween is coming, and in Asphalt 8, “the monsters of speed are ready”, said French games maker Gameloft in the most recent update Tuesday to its gravity-defying Asphalt 8: Airborne racer.

République Episode 3: Ones & Zeros now available as an in-app purchase

Last year, an unassuming stealth game found its way into the App Store. Thanks to the incredible talent of the development team at Camouflaj, République gained a massive following and is a big hit with mobile gamers.

This week, the company announced that the third installment of the five-series game has just launched as an in-app purchase. If you are following the epic struggle of Hope and her escape from the oppressive clutches of the Overseer, you can download Ones & Zeros inside the game today.

Great Big War Game and other Rubicon titles free for the weekend

If you're looking for a little entertainment this weekend in the form of a new iOS game, you might check out some of Rubicon's titles. The UK-based indie developer has discounted nearly all of its iOS library down to free for the next two days.

This includes the massively popular turn-based strategy "Great War Game" series, as well as other games like Zombies: Dead in 20, Fruit Blitz and Yachty Deluxe. They normally range in cost from $1 to $3, so we're talking $10+ in savings here.

Apple has named the popular mini truck puzzler RGB Express its app of the week for this week. This means that from now through next Thursday, you’ll be able to pick up the title for free in the App Store—a solid $3 discount from its normal price tag.

For those who haven't played RGB Express, the game is simple. Players are tasked with drawing routes for their trucks in a way that ensures every house receives the correct package. There are over 200 levels, which of course get progressively tougher.

NHL 2K hits the App Store

2K Games on Thursday released NHL 2K for the iPhone and iPad, a successor to its previous hockey game which can no longer be found in the App Store. Unlike rival Electronic Arts's sports-themed freemium games, NHL 2K is a paid download that will run you eight bucks a pop for the privilege of playing the full game that doesn't limit your gameplay or constantly ask for cash.

Featuring iOS controller support, live roster updates, the My Career mode where you control one player and earn skill points to build up ratings over multiple seasons, turn-based multiplayer penalty shootout using Game Center, in addition to a fast-paced arcade style 3-on-3 mode, this one's feature packed and well poised to storm the App Store charts.

Rovio’s Flappy Bird-inspired Retry launches globally

After soft-launching its retro-style arcade flying game inspired by the Flappy Bird craze in Canada, Finland and Poland, Retry by Rovio is now available internationally.

Released under Rovio's LVL 11 experimental label for internal games which don’t quite fit the overall Rovio brand, the addictive free-to-play download will have you thinking that “you’ve stepped into an 8-bit time machine and gone back to 1986″.

Skullduggery! digs into physics-based gaming in a special way

Physics-based games have really turned into something special. It was only a few years ago when games like Angry Birds were little more than the same game with a new skin. However, developers have found new ways to make the slingshot mechanics work in fun new ways and the category has taken on a life of its own.

Skullduggery! is a new game that features the familiar drag-to-launch mechanics that are so well known in physics-based games. But this title mixes in a bit of platform action to turn it into more than just a game of toss the birdy.

Another official Pokemon game has landed in the App Store

The Pokemon Company today released its second official game for iOS called Camp Pokemon. Aimed at kids between 6 and 8 years of age, the title takes place on an immersive island filled with various mini games that teach players what it takes to become a Pokemon trainer.

Completing each of these activities will net players a pin, which they can view later in their Pin Book, allowing them to track their progress. They can also collect stickers, which can then be used to decorate photos taken with either iPhone or iPad cameras from within the game.

Red Riding Hood and the Restless Wolves presents a test of logic and understanding

Even though my favorite platform game of all time is Super Mario Bros., I love it when developers shake things up a little and twist a traditional genre into something familiar, but different. Atmospheric platform games are incredibly fun, offer great challenges, and look beautiful.

Red Riding Hood and the Restless Wolves is one such atmospheric platform game that is slow paced, easy on the eyes, and full of great puzzle challenges. Take a walk with Dr. RRH as she tries to get back to her current place and time.

Rovio releases Angry Birds Transformers globally

Following its soft-launch in New Zealand, Australia, Canada and Finland on September 25, Rovio's Angry Birds Transformers is now available globally as a free-to-play download for the iPhone and iPad, the Finnish mobile games maker announced Wednesday morning.

Featuring cars, trucks, tanks and planes and a plethora of heroes and villains with unique attacks and abilities, the movie tie-in challenges your Autobirds (I chuckled) to save Piggy Island from the crazed robots on a mission to nuke it out of orbit.
