Dashtweet now available on Cydia

[tube]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OskpEbycyek[/tube]

Although it was the first widget exclusively developed for Dashboard X that I was able to test, Dashtweet is actually the second Dashboard X widget to appear on Cydia after Clock Widget.

Dashboard X is a new widget platform that allows you to add widgets directly to your iOS device's Home screen. This allows you to customize your iPhone similar to the way that Android devices allow to toy with various widgets.

Dashtweet, as its name suggests, is a Twitter widget that allows you to tweet directly from your Home screen. You can now get it for free from Cydia's BigBoss repo. Be sure to check out our full walkthrough of Dashtweet as well.

Rumor: Google working on a Game Center rip-off for Android

The search giant Google is reportedly looking to replicate Apple's Game Center with a native Android app of its own.

Despite the ongoing patent war waged between Apple and a bunch of Android backers over the look and feel of iOS software, Google is reportedly looking to simply copy Game Center.

The search firm needs own social gaming service so Android gamers have a central place to connect with each other, check out leaderboards, scores and challenge friends.

And if their other products are anything to go by, Google's thing is likely to feature deep integration with Google+, their another social thing...

Apple reportedly sells 7.25M iPhones in Japan during fiscal year 2011

Macotakara, the pretty reliable Japanese blog, relayed a MM Research Institute study today which pegged Apple's iPhone sales in Japan for the fiscal year 2011 at 7.25 million units. According to Apple's Q1 2012 earnings, the company shipped 35.1 million iPhones worldwide.

Unfortunately, Apple doesn't divulge iPhone unit sales on a per-country basis and only breaks down sales by region such as Asia-Pacific, North America, Europe and so forth...

VolumeColor: change the color of the iPhone’s volume HUD

You can safely file this one under the "not necessarily useful, but nonetheless interesting" tweak of the day. VolumeColor is a recent Cydia release that allows you to alter the color of your volume HUD.

It's also not that original, as I'm pretty sure I've seen such functionality in another tweak before, though its name currently escapes me.

Anyhow, feel free to take a look at our video walkthrough of VolumeColor inside...

Up next for Rovio: Casey’s Contraptions

Eagle-eyed readers spotted something interesting at the end of yesterday's clip accompanying the one billionth Angry Birds download milestone: a character that looks a lot like that in Casey's Contraptions, a charming and addictive puzzle game by Snappy Touch and Mystery Coconut.

Confirming speculation, Rovio's vice president of franchise development Ville Heijari confirmed his company acquired all rights to Casey's Contraptions. The iPad version has already been pulled from the App Store as the Angry Birds maker works on a new version that will hit iOS, Android and other platforms this summer...

Apple offers $16M to settle iPad dispute, but Proview wants $400M

Confirming the latest rumor asserting a possible settlement, Apple has reportedly offered Proview just $16 million for the rights to use the iPad moniker in China.

That's a far cry from a whopping $400 million the cash-strapped display maker is allegedly seeking in order to settle the trademark dispute and appease its creditors.

At the same time, Apple too is in a hurry to settle this dispute as the company looks to launch its new iPad in the all too important 1.33 billion people market, without risking a country-wide sales ban...

This has been confirmed by Terry Gou, the CEO who runs Taipei, Taiwan-based Foxconn which assembles Apple products alongside Pegatron Technology, another Asian contract manufacturer...

Facebook announces App Center, a cross-platform app store

Late yesterday afternoon, Facebook announced that it was going to be launching a cross-platform app store, coded entirely in HTML5, called App Center. Cross-platform meaning it will be available on both Android and iOS, as well as the web.

No, this doesn't mean that the social network is looking to take on Apple or Google. The App Center will contain both iOS and Android apps, along with Facebook's own titles, and will link directly to each platform's respective app stores...
