Apple reportedly planning MacBook Air refresh later this month

Czech-based Apple rumor site letemsvetemapplem.eu reports that Apple will be refreshing its online store with a minor update for the MacBook Air on February 24.

It's not the massive retina MacBook Air update we've been waiting for, however the website claims processor, storage, and RAM improvements will be landing on the ultra-thin laptop - specifics weren't shared.

16 new tweaks to consider this weekend

We're now entering the fourth week of straight decline in amount of new jailbreak tweak releases. I'm not sure if there is anything to get too concerned about at this point, but it's definitely worth noting.

If you haven't had a chance to get on Cydia this week, I've rounded up all the new tweaks that shipped over the last few days, with a short description of each of them. That should give you a quick overview of what was released and what might be of interest to you.

The Walking Dead wallpapers for iPhone and iPad

A zombie killing phenomenon, The Walking Dead winter season premier is tonight on AMC, for those viewers in the US. Now in season 5, the show is known for its dramatic thriller storyline that involves a group of once strangers surviving in a post-apocalyptic environment. As the name suggests, not only does the group struggles through personal relationships, but also continuously runs from zombies.

The show easily captures an environment without standard daily life, using vast sweeping shots of vacant territories, empty vehicles, and dilapidated buildings to emphasize the current destruction of mankind. Inside, find a set of Walking Dead wallpapers inspired by the series and the destructed world that is home to zombies.

Podcasting basics part II: location, voice, microphones and hardware

In the previous podcast basics post, we talked about some of the preliminary steps that need to be taken before proceeding with creating a podcast. Those steps involved finding the right subject, format, hosts, etc.

Now that you have a good idea about the subject you'd like to podcast about, the show format, the co-hosts, and the scheduling, it's time to start thinking about your podcast hardware. I like to include location as a part of the hardware, because the location where you record your podcasts can play a huge role in how the end product sounds.

In this post, I'll talk about what hardware I use for podcasting, along with other general recommendations on hardware. If you're still mulling about the subject, or co-hosts, then I urge you to read part I of this series; it covers the stuff you should consider before even getting started.

Sapphire-like Corning glass could come to next iPhone

Kentucky-based Corning has announced that Sapphire-like glass called "Project Phire" will be shipping on smartphones later this year. While not direct confirmation, this could be the glass found on the next iPhone, as Corning has been the glass Apple has chosen in previous generations.

The new glass was announced at an event in New York City, reports CNET, and the company claims it offers the scratch resistance of sapphire but does better when dropped.

New upcoming WidgetCenter tweak brings widgets to Reachability view

Reachability has been all of the rage for jailbreak app developers as of late, and why not? It's one of the big features for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, and it's an obvious area that can be exploited to provided extra functionality. ReachApp—a tweak that's still in beta—is a good example of a tweak that takes good advantage of Reachability, and now another upcoming jailbreak tweak is in the works that will breathe new life into Reachability as well.

WidgetCenter is an upcoming release that allows users to access widgets directly from Reachability view. This dynamically adjusting tweak provides impressive functionality, animations, and loads of future potential expandability. Developer Mitch Treece has provided iDownloadBlog with a first look at his upcoming creation, and of course, we've created a hands-on video to show it off to you.

Will you trust iCloud with your memories?

The big news around the Apple blogs right now is the arrival of the first beta of Apple's new Photos application for the Mac. Coming as part of the OS X 10.10.3 beta of Yosemite, Photos is the long awaited replacement for the aging iPhoto and to some extent, Aperture. In a world where we create gigabytes of photos each and every year, in part thanks to our iPhones, having a way to keep those images organized is vitally important to many of us. Apple thinks Photos, in combination with iCloud, is how we're going to do just that.

But is it right?
