New Apple wallpapers: they work together beautifully

This past week, Apple released a new store front image highlighting the Apple Watch and its ability to work harmoniously with the existing ecosystem. With an established set of avid Wallpapers of the Week readers, I received several messages on Twitter @jim_gresham, asking if I was able to grab the walls.

I was sent the original extraction by our buddy Jason Zigrino, but the image was too small to utilize for a photo quality wallpaper. As luck would have it, another designer you are familiar with was able to make a few modifications and give you a photo quality download.

Tweaks of the week: ADKeys, Alternatum, and more

According to the rumors, iOS 9 will be a heavy blow to the jailbreak community, but as Jeff cleverly noted, there's no such thing as impossible. With that said, we're hoping the grim rumor won't discourage smart developers from coming up with new tweaks.

Speaking of new tweaks, this week was pretty slow, but it saw the release of a few interesting ideas.

App Watch: game on

Although I'm not a hardcore gamer, I do my fair share of gaming, largely on my Mac or PC, but iOS has demanded my attention as a gaming platform as well. Console gaming doesn't greatly interest me, however, due to the cost of games and limitation of genres. But I don't mind investing into a gaming PC that I can also use for work, school, and countless other things, and my iPad Air 2 is also great for playing the more graphically intense titles on iOS.

More recently, gaming moved beyond iPads and iPhones to alight on users' wrists with Apple Watch, which is our primary focus in this article. Although the games are very basic, as they should be, many are designed to burn a few minutes while in line or other places where pulling out an iPhone isn't entirely convenient, while others are built exclusively for Apple Watch.

Alternatum brings an app switcher and toggles to Reachability

Alternatum is yet another jailbreak tweak that piggybacks on the Reachability feature introduced with the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It allows you to add a host of new features to the Reachability view such as an app switcher, toggles and more.

Unfortunately, I don't currently own any jailbroken devices that feature Reachability, but Alternatum does bring the ability to use a simple Activator gesture to mimic Reachability. Does it work well?

ADKeys: assign an image as your keyboard background color

ADKeys, which stands for adaptable keys, is a tweak that lets you change up the background and key cap color of the keyboard in iOS. By doing so, you can match up your keyboard color with other areas or your iPhone, such as your current wallpaper or theme.

If you can manage to handle the tweak's frustrating preferences, then you may be able to obtain the look you're going for. Have a glance at our walkthrough for a bit more detail.

Apple Maps gains data from NavAds, Yellow Pages and other partners

Apple on Friday updated the Acknowledgements page for its mapping software, adding a handful of new data partners. The page gives credit to TomTom, Yelp and other companies that provide Apple Maps with imagery and information.

Among the new partnerships added this week are E-WEGO, a business listing firm, navigational ad expert NavAds, and Yellow Pages. TripAdvisor and Booking.com are also now listed as official partners, following a report earlier this year.

Photos and video of Apple Watch Edition being unboxed

Units of the staggeringly-expensive Apple Watch Edition began shipping this week, and some customers have already started receiving their orders. Yesterday, a user over in this MacRumors forum thread posted a series of photos showing his new golden wearable.

The photos are of a 42mm Yellow Gold Edition with black Sports band. The box looks similar to that of the Stainless Steel Apple Watch, but is dark blue (almost purple) in color and includes a matching cleaning cloth. Check out the images below to see more differences.

Pac-Man receives big update, goes on sale for 35th anniversary

It may be hard to believe, but Pac-Man is celebrating its 35th birthday this weekend. The popular pellet-gobbling arcade game made its debut 35 years ago on May 22, 1980 (it launched first in Japan, and then Midway brought it to the US in October).

Unsurprisingly, Bandai Namco is going above and beyond to honor the anniversary. It's hosting a party in Chicago with the creator of Pac-Man Professor Toru Iwatani tonight, and it's pushed out an update and discount for the iOS port of the game.

25 amazing apps and games are currently on sale for $0.99

Apple this week launched a new promotion in the App Store called 'Amazing Apps & Games for $0.99.' The curated section highlights 12 great apps and 13 popular games, which normally run between $2 and $6, that are currently on sale for less than a buck.

Among the offerings are the endless snowboarder Alto's Revenge, and premium creative apps like Procreate Pocket and Enlight. Many of these have already been mentioned in our App Recap, but we thought the deals were worth compiling into a single post.

Marvis Music Player redesigns your music experience on iOS

Around here, we love music players. It’s especially nice when they have a smooth look and plenty of added features. If you are going to use something other than Apple’s stock Music app, there had better be a reason for it.

Marvis Music Player has a nice design and plenty of unique user interface features that are customizable so listening to music is more than just a good-looking playback experience.

AmFilm Premium HD Clear Screen Protector keeps your iPhone 6 scratch-free

While tempered glass screen protectors are definitely becoming a big trend, nothing beats the super inexpensiveness of traditional film protectors. As technology improves, the price decreases exponentially.

TechMatte’s AmFilm screen protector for iPhone 6 protects your screen from scratches and dust with crystal-clear clarity so you see everything the way you are supposed to.
