Meerkat now supports YES/NO polls, showing photos to watchers and more

Meerkat, the popular live video streaming software that competes with Twitter-owned Periscope, today issued a nice little update to its iOS application in the App Store.

With version number bumped to 1.5.4, this edition of Meerkat includes a few enhancements like a revamped feed and the ability to show your watchers photos from your Camera roll.

Perhaps most crucially, Meerkat now includes a polling feature which allows anyone to ask their watchers simple YES/NO questions about anything, as they're broadcasting.

New Apple TV expected to launch in October for under $200

The next-generation Apple TV will launch in October for less than $200, reports 9to5Mac. Citing sources familiar with the matter, the outlet claims that company executives are still finalizing pricing, but the latest options call for a starting price of either $149 or $199.

Since this will be considerably more expensive than other streaming media devices on the market, 9to5Mac says that Apple plans to keep the current third-gen Apple TV around. Its more modest $69 price tag will serve as an entry-level product into the Apple TV line.

Claimed iPhone 6s parts show larger FaceTime camera, Force Touch

Some new photos surfaced this weekend, showing what is said to be the front face of an iPhone 6s. 9to5Mac shares the high resolution images of the claimed component, which appears to offer up insight into two of the unannounced handset's new features.

The first is a higher resolution FaceTime camera. We've been hearing rumors for a while now that the iPhone 6s will feature an improved front-facing camera for taking better selfies, and if legitimate, this part confirms it with a larger FaceTime camera sensor.

FireCore adds YouTube functionality back to the Apple TV 2 with new version of aTVFlash (black)

By this point, you may have forgotten about your Apple TV 2, but the folks over at FireCore sure haven't. Today, they released a new version of the popular aTV Flash (black) tool for jailbroken Apple TV 2s.

aTV Flash black is a tool with a suite of features that can transform and supercharge your Apple TV 2. It's basically a way to add a ton of new functionality to Apple's long-neglected little streaming box.

We've covered aTV Flash (black) plenty of times in the past, and it continues to be one of the reasons for owning (and holding on to) an Apple TV 2. This latest update to aTV Flash (black) brings the version number up to 2.6, and adds YouTube functionality back into the mix.

Apple’s subscription television service reaffirmed to remain on hold ahead of September 9 event

A next-generation Apple TV hardware with Siri voice control, a revamped remote and a dedicated App Store is expected to launch alongside new iPhones and iPads at the September 9 media event at San Francisco's gigantic Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

But don't expect a rumored subscription television service to go live anytime soon.

A report Friday by Jessica Lessin of The Information contends that content makers are not down with a monthly subscription fee Apple reportedly wants to charge consumers for streaming live television and premium channels to their devices.
