Join iDB for tomorrow’s Apple event

Apple’s 'Hey Siri' event is now less than a day away, and anticipation couldn’t be higher. We're expecting a jam-packed keynote tomorrow with new iPhones, the first Apple TV update in more than 3 years, new Apple Watch bands, and possibly even the long-rumored iPad Pro.

Apple has said that it will be streaming the festivities to its website and various iOS devices, but for those who won’t be able to watch the keynote live, iDB has you covered. We will be here all day, providing coverage of all announcements made before, during and after the event.

A Periscope app is being developed for the new Apple TV

I think that there's enough smoke to state with confidence that a new Apple TV will be launched tomorrow, and it'll bring with it an SDK, which in turn means third-party apps on your TV screen.

As expected, we've yet to hear any developers go on record to state that they are in the process of making an app for Apple's soon-to-be-released set top box. But TechCrunch's Josh Constine has it on good authority that Twitter-owned Periscope, a live streaming app that allows users to broadcast from anywhere using their phone, is secretly building an app for the Apple TV.

More iPhone 6s box art leaks ahead of tomorrow’s launch

In yet another sign that we're ridiculously close to launch, several images are now floating around the web showcasing the iPhone 6s box, complete with cover art.

The latest box art leak that I've seen is from @alixrezax, and it features what seems to be a Space Grey iPhone 6s. Unlike last year's sparse white box that featured a mere embossed outline of the phone awaiting inside, this year's model goes back to the product shot and wallpaper seen in past iPhone releases.

eBay 4.0 for iPhone and iPad drops with redesigned UI, easier access to top deals, promotions & more

Online retail giant eBay is celebrating its 20th anniversary today. To mark the occasion, the company has released a long-expected revamp to its iPhone and iPad bidding app in the App Store.

For starters, eBay 4.0 for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, a free download, sports a revamped appearance along with an all-new app icon. At long last, the app is now universal and provides an easier access to top deals, promotions and events, “balanced with streamlined ways to access the powerful eBay features you’ve come to rely on.”

Keek: the best way to view apps in Control Center

There are several jailbreak tweaks that allow you to view apps in Control Center, CCMore being the latest, but none of them are as good or as well implemented as this tweak.

Keek is a jailbreak tweak that lets you quickly open your most recently viewed apps in Control Center. You can then go back to Control Center, close the app, or launch the app in full screen view. Watch our video walkthrough to see Keek in action.

Sketchy rumor hints at a Retina resolution bump for iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus

A post published on the Chinese blog Feng.com back in June claimed that Apple's upcoming 'iPhone 6s' and 'iPhone 6s Plus' smartphones would be gaining a resolution bump, though that report has yet to be corroborated by other more reliable sources.

Be that as it may, this morning some purported specifications for the upcoming iPhones were shared on the microblogging website Weibo and spotted by Feng, suggesting the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus will feature increased Retina HD screen resolutions with approximately 25 percent more pixels.

Gorgeous concepts envision iPhone 6c and Apple TV 4 with iOS 9 and iPhone 6-like design

Ahead of Apple's big unveiling tomorrow, 3D artist Martin Hajek has posted a batch of sexy concept renderings which imagine Apple's rumored iPhone 6c and a next-generation Apple TV with iPhone 6 and Apple Watch design cues plus iOS 9-powered UI.

Contrary to the rumors, Apple won't be unveiling the iPhone 6c tomorrow after all though some tipsters claim the device is coming in time for Thanksgiving.

Pangu team member, windknown, has posted a report on the official Pangu blog outlining several vulnerabilities in iOS 8.4.1, the latest public iOS firmware for iPhones and iPads.

The writeup, entitled iOS 8.4.1 Kernel Vulnerabilities in AppleHDQGasGaugeControl, highlights three different bugs found in iOS 8.4.1: a stack overflow bug, an out-of-bound memory access bug, and a heap overflow bug.

The iPhone effect: Samsung laying off 10 percent of workforce at its headquarters

According to a report by Korean newspaper which was relayed Tuesday by Bloomberg, Samsung Electronics is about to lay off ten percent of workers at its headquarters in South Korea “as the world’s biggest smartphone maker loses sales to Apple and Chinese vendors.”

It is no secret that things have been tough for Samsung ever since Apple released its larger-screened iPhones. In addition, strong competition from China's vendors like Huawei and Xiaomi, which build comparable phones that cost half as much as Samsung's high-end devices, has contributed to Samsung's diminishing sales in China.

Verizon to start field-testing 5G wireless within 12 months, commercial deployment in 2017

Verizon Wireless, the leading U.S. wireless operator, will be kicking off field trials of a fifth-generation network which promises to bring some rather insane download speeds.

With these trials, the big red carrier should become the world's first carrier to seriously move into 5G.

As reported by CNET, field trials on 5G wireless technology are set to kick off within the next 12 months, with Verizon's chief information and technology architect Roger Gurnani confirming that “some level of commercial deployment” should begin in 2017.
