LockInfo8 brings a unified notification experience to the Lock screen

LockInfo8, like the previous seven releases in the series, is a Lock screen tweak that provides you with a plethora of pertinent information about your day, your apps, the weather, and more. It's the latest in a long-running series that has been installed on millions of iPhones, and is one of the most recognizable and popular jailbreak tweaks in the history of the community.

For various reasons, I've always shied away from covering the tweak. Some of it had to do with disinterest, but some of it was laziness. I guess I figured that everyone already knew about LockInfo, so why bother, but I understand that this was the wrong attitude.

To be honest, LockInfo always felt like it was trying to do too many things at once, and that's another reason why I lacked the interest and motivation to provide any sort of post. In this area, LockInfo seems to have turned a corner as of late. It's still an incredibly deep tweak, but the barrier to entry is much more palatable this time around.

How to extract images from apps with the Preview app on Mac

Applications on the Mac are really just directory structures containing files, images, assets, executables, and the like. If you've ever right-clicked on an application and selected Show Package Contents, then you know exactly what I mean.

While right-clicking is a reasonable solution for extracting image, font, and other visible assets from an application, the Preview app makes doing so even easier. By simply dragging and dropping an app on the Preview app icon in the dock, you're presented with a easy navigable thumbnail view of all of the app's various assets.

How to use the new TinyUmbrella beta to save SHSH blobs and prepare for downgrades

In case you missed our post over the weekend, TinyUmbrella, the popular tool associated with downgrading iOS firmware, is back with a brand new beta version. This is a significant new revelation for the jailbreak community that could have some far-reaching consequences when it comes to establishing potential downgrade options and protecting against Apple's routine of closing firmware signing windows.

The new TinyUmbrella tool shares a lot in common with its predecessor, but it's been a long time, and there's enough differences to warrant a brand new walkthrough and discussion. In this video, I'll show you how to save your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch SHSH blobs, I'll talk about what's new with TinyUmbrella, and I'll show you some of the things I've learned and encountered thus far.

How to tab between dialogue box buttons on Mac

Tab key on Mac's keyboard

The tabbing experience on Mac might feel a little gimped if you're coming from a Windows machine. That's because, by default, macOS makes it so that the option to move keyboard focus between all controls with the Tab key is disabled. Instead, tabbing is only possible between text boxes and lists using the default setting. In this tutorial, I'll show you two quick and easy ways to change this setting and enable a much-improved tabbing experience on your Mac.

1Password for Mac is on sale for 30% off

Ladies and gentlemen, if you haven't yet experienced the greatness that is 1Password, then now is a wonderful time to jump in. That's because the well-respected password management tool has gone on sale for a limited time, and is now $34.99—30% cheaper than it normally is.

I think it's safe to say that most of us at iDB use 1Password, and I've personally used it for a number of years. Yes, there are other password management tools out there, and I have experienced many of them. That said, I can unequivocally recommend 1Password as the best tool of them all.

Couria quick reply tweak is coming to iOS 8

With biteSMS' demise, there has been a distinct need for messaging tweaks, specifically quick reply and quick compose tweaks. Couria, a quick reply and quick compose tweak that first debuted on iOS 7, is a tweak that looks to fill the need.

Today, its developer, Qusic, teased the progress he's been making on Twitter. Here's a look at what you should expect.

A new TinyUmbrella beta is released with iOS downgrades in view

As promised, Semaphore has released a rewrite of his popular TinyUmbrella tool for OS X and Windows. The tool, which has been completely rewritten from the ground up, is currently in beta and requires Java.

Semaphore has alluded to the fact that the new TinyUmbrella may have far-reaching consequences related to downgrading both 32-bit and 64-bit devices. Back in the original TinyUmbrella's heyday, it was used as a tool to help downgrade to prior versions of iOS.

How to get WhatsApp voice calling on your jailbroken iPhone

If you're jailbroken, and have a little patience, you can get WhatsApp's new in-beta voice calling feature on your iPhone right now. To do so, you'll need to download the WhatsApp beta, download a package from Cydia, and following a couple of additional steps.

After following this tutorial, you will be able to access voice calling in WhatsApp. I can personally verify that this technique works, and was able to shoot a video walkthrough showing you the steps along with a live phone call.

Twitter shuts down Meerkat’s access to its social graph

A few days ago, we posted about Meerkat, a new live video streaming service that is currently enjoying a significant buzz amongst the tech industry. The primary reason for Meerkat's success has to do with how easy it is to get up and running. You can literally go from installing the app to live steaming in mere seconds. Meerkat has Twitter to thank for much of this, because the app basically piggybacks on Twitter's already existing account and social graph infrastructure.

That said, it was largely assumed that Meerkat's free reign access to Twitter's social graph would be short-lived, and this proved to be true. As noted on Buzzfeed, Twitter has cut off Meerkat's access to automatically port over twitter connections—those who you follow and those who follow you on Twitter.

The Twitter social graph was key in helping Meerkat generate the buzz that it's garnered over the last week and a half. Prior to this evening, when users signed in to Meerkat with their Twitter credentials, all of the connections that existed on Twitter were ported in to Meerkat. This made it extremely easy to establish existing connections, receive notifications when fellow twitter followers joined and began streaming, and essentially provided a zero-friction environment.

After this evening, this is no longer the case. Yes, this is bad news for Meerkat, as it significantly narrows its spout for growth, but it won't necessarily spell the death of the service.

HiddenConvos: a sleek way to hide conversations in the Messages app

Normally I would shoot a video to highlight a jailbreak tweak, but seeing as I'd probably have to blur out most of the video, I decided to go about it the old fashioned way. I hope that I can accurately portray just how awesome HiddenConvos is without the assistance of video, because it's really that good.

HiddenConvos is a tweak that allows you to quickly hide conversations in the Messages app using a simple left-swipe gesture. Once you left-swipe on a conversation, tap the Hide button to hide the conversation from view and suppress its notifications.

Workflow updated to support text translation, Skype calling, improved image combining

One of my favorite apps on iOS, and my early pick for iOS app of the year, Workflow, has received a fairly significant update. Not only does it usher in a ton of different bug fixes, but there are some meaty content additions as well.

Included in Workflow version 1.1.2 is a new action to translate text between different languages, a new call via Skype action, and support for a new grid mode when combining images. Needless to say, if you're a Workflow user, you should head over to the App Store and grab the free update.
