Apple seen removing emoji apps from the App Store

This is kind of interesting. With iOS 6 bringing expanded emoji support, it looks like Apple has decided to do something about the large number of emoji apps in the App Store.

According to a new report, several developers have received letters from the company, stating that their emoji apps are being removed now that the feature is built-in to iOS...

Apple loses rights to iPhone name in Mexico

Apple has lost a fairly significant court case in Mexico this week. A Mexico City Judge has denied the company's injunction request that would have allowed it to continue selling iPhone-branded products in the country.

Apparently, the "iPhone" moniker sounds too phonetically similar to iFone, a brand belonging to a Mexican telecommunications company. And the similarity is enough that Apple could be banned from using the name in the region...

Apple looking to make further improvements to Maps in iOS 6.1

Apple released the first beta of iOS 6.1 to developers yesterday. It's still early, obviously, but we've already discovered a handful of changes in the new firmware, including revamped Lock screen music controls.

And, as a reader has pointed out to us, iOS 6.1 also adds a new "Report a Problem" button to the stock Maps app. It replaces a smaller bug reporter link, and signifies Apple's commitment to making Maps better...

Teardown of 4th gen iPad reveals LG Retina display and more

With the newly-unveiled fourth generation iPad now on sale in some parts of the globe, the inevitable teardowns have begun. As usual, iFixit was first on scene, and has posted a detailed breakdown of the tablet's innards.

As you might expect, there aren't many internal differences between the new iPad and the one Apple launched 6 months ago. But it does have a new processor, and a few other changes, so it's certainly worth taking a look at...

Apple expected to sell 1.5 million iPad minis this weekend

All eyes will be on Apple tomorrow, as the iPad mini officially launches. It's a new product for the company, and a new market, so pundits and analysts alike are anxious to see how the 7.9-inch tablet fairs.

Starting at $329, a lot of people think it's overpriced. And with its A5 processor and no Retina display, it's been described as outdated. But that doesn't mean that Apple won't sell a ton of them this weekend...

Scott Forstall was one of Apple’s most prolific inventors

Since Apple announced on Monday that Scott Forstall would be leaving the company next year, we've heard a number of reports regarding the way other employees viewed the long-time SVP of iOS Software.

Needless to say, most of the stuff we've heard hasn't been positive. He's been described as polarizing, and abrasive, and was accused of abusing his relationship with Steve Jobs. But that doesn't mean he wasn't an asset...

iOS devices account for 65% of US mobile web traffic

Chitika summoned the data from its 200,000 mobile websites and some 4 billion ads to bring you its latest report on mobile web traffic. The advertisement firm does this every couple of months to give some insight on which mobile devices folks are using to browse the web.

Surprise. According to the latest numbers, which come from data pulled between September and October, Apple's iOS devices are still very much ahead of Samsung and other competitors. In fact, they account for more than 65% of the mobile web traffic in North America...

Redsn0w 0.9.15b3 is out with improvements and bug fixes

The Dev Team has updated its popular jailbreak utility RedSn0w today, bringing the software to version 0.9.15b3. Although it closely follows Apple's release of iOS 6.0.1, it doesn't seem to include any 6.0.1-specific changes.

What it does include, though, are a handful of bug fixes and improvements that should make the jailbreaking process much smoother. We've got the full change log after the break...

Apple releases iOS 6.0.1: fixes keyboard glitch, improves Wi-Fi and more

Apple has this morning released an update to its mobile operating system, iOS 6.0.1. The update comes just a day before the official launch of Apple's new 4th gen iPad and iPad mini.

In iTunes, updating to 6.0.1 is business as usual. But if you have an iPhone 5, you'll likely see the above screen asking you to install an 'Updater' before you receive the actual update. As it states, the Updater fixes a bug that prevents the iPhone 5 from installing updates wirelessly over the air.

So what's new in iOS 6.0.1? We've got the full change log after the break...

iPad mini teardown reveals Samsung display, stereo speakers

We've still got about 24 hours or so until the iPad mini goes on sale here in the US, but the i-teardown experts over at iFixit have already scored their test subject. And they're ripping it apart as we speak.

This has become a bit of a ritual for the do-it-yourself repair site, with new Apple products, and it usually reveals some interesting things about the devices. So let's see what they've discovered thus far...

As most of you are aware of by now, the Northeastern part of the United States was hit by a superstorm this week. Hurricane Sandy tore through New York, New Jersey and other areas on Monday night, causing an estimated $60 billion in damages.

For those that are looking to help, Apple has teamed up with the American Red Cross to make it easy for folks to donate money to the relief efforts...

iPad mini box says the tablet requires iTunes 11

As we told you this morning, some customers started receiving their iPad minis today, despite the fact that the tablet doesn't officially launch until Friday. This gave us early unboxing photos and new details about the product.

One of those details is that on the back of the iPad mini's retail box, it says that the tablet requires iTunes 11 for sync. But, as we all know, Apple has pushed its iTunes 11 release back to November. So what's the deal?
