How to make app icons bigger on your iPad Home Screen

Learn all the different ways you can increase the size of app icons on the Home Screen of your iPad (and iPhone) if they’re too small for your liking.

Each of the three options below is tailored to specific scenarios, so choose the one that fits your needs.

Enable Large App Icons

This iPadOS-exclusive setting only changes icon size, while the second method below also affects other user interface elements.

  1. Go to iPad Settings.
  2. Tap Home Screen & Dock.
  3. Turn on Use Large App Icons. Then go back to the Home Screen, and you’ll see bigger app icons.

Select Larger Text style

Display Zoom enlarges user interface elements like bubbles in the Messages app and menus in the Settings app, while enlarging app icons.

  1. Go to the Settings app.
  2. Tap Appearance in iPadOS 27 or Display & Brightness in older versions.
  3. Tap Display Zoom.
  4. Select Larger Text, then tap the checkmark icon or Done and confirm by selecting Use Zoomed. Your iPad will restart for the changes to take effect.

Show bigger app icons, but without labels

Hiding labels under app icons will make app icons a tad bigger.

  1. Hold an empty area on the Home Screen until the icons start jiggling.
  2. Tap the paint brush icon or Edit in the top left corner and select Customize.
  3. Touch the dual-square button in the upper-right corner of the Customize panel to hide app labels, which will enlarge app icons.

To revert to the default icon size, repeat the steps above but turn the setting off.
