Custom iOS 16 Lock Screen fonts that Misaka users can try right now

It’s no surprise that you can use the Lock Screen editing capabilities of iOS 16 to change the font of your date and time display, but it’s also true that the list of fonts Apple gives you to pick from are quite limited.

For those looking for more, the MacDirtyCow and kfd exploits raise the curtain on a plethora of different fonts that users can add to their existing Lock Screen font collections.

What you need to know about custom Lock Screen fonts

Fonts installed using the MacDirtyCow & kfd exploits aren’t officially supported by Apple, but use Apple’s framework and therefore look stock. Still, these fonts will be unique, as other users can’t match your aesthetic without having a MacDirtyCow or kfd-vulnerable device.

MacDirtyCow-vulnerable devices include those running iOS 15.0-16.1.2, while kfd-vulnerable devices include those running iOS 16.0-16.6 beta 1.

Unfortunately, these custom fonts can’t be installed and used on iOS 17 because there isn’t a comparable exploit available for iOS 17 yet.

We should also note that most of these third-party fonts can be acquired from package manager apps such as Misaka, PureKFD, and Picasso. My preference, purely because of familiarity, is Misaka, but your mileage may vary. I encourage you to try them all so that you find a package manager app that suits your needs.

If you’re ready to check out some of the different third-party Lock Screen fonts that you can use with the aforementioned exploits, then read on as we suggest some of the coolest ones we’ve found. All the fonts you’re about to see below can be acquired from the standard repositories in Misaka, so you won’t even need to add repositories.

Wrapping up

Making use of custom fonts for your Lock Screen’s date and time display was a step in the right direction on Apple’s part; we just hope that someday, you won’t be limited by Apple’s font choices. Fortunately, using hacks for the MacDirtyCow and kfd exploits allow you to free yourself of those limitations by installing any font you can find a hack for.

You might also find the following tutorials handy if you haven’t yet gotten started with a hack-based package manager app:

Are you going to be taking advantage of any of the aforementioned Lock Screen date and time display fonts by way of Misaka, or another comparable package manager app? Be sure to let us know why or why not in the comments section down below.
