YouChoose, SayCheese, Rewind and other apps to check out this weekend

It’s the weekend people, and you know what that means! It’s time for another edition of our Apps of the Week roundup. This week we have some awesome picks for you including an app that helps you make decisions, a remote for taking photos, and an interesting AI assistant. And as always, we’ve selected a fun game for you to check out.

YouChoose: Random Thing Picker

You ever have a tough time deciding where to eat or what movie to watch? What a silly question. Of course you have. Well, if you can get it narrowed down to just two things, this app can help you decide. It’s called YouChoose, and just as the title suggests, it helps you pick between two choices. Succession or Righteous Gemstones? Pizza or Tacos? Ok these aren’t great examples, as they are all excellent choices, but you get the idea. It’s not a novel concept — I’ve definitely seen apps like this before. But hey it looks cool, and it’s right here right now. So why not check it out?

SayCheese – Remote Camera

Here is an interesting app that takes advantage of friends and families with multiple iPhones, who also take a lot of photos. SayCheese lets you control one iPhone’s camera remotely with a second one. You can remotely control the camera features such as zoom, focus, night mode, exposure, and of course take photos and videos. The App Store page says it will work up to 300 meters (!) away, but I’m thinking they meant 30? Either way, this seems like like a cheap and easy solution to a common problem — having to ask a stranger to take a photo for you, or having to keep someone out of a group photo.

Rewind: Truly Personalized AI

Ok, so this is a weird one, but hear me out before you make up your mind. Rewind bills itself as a personalized AI in your pocket, and I don’t mean it’s just another clever chatbot or research assistant. Listen to this tagline: “everything you’ve read in Safari and all of your screenshots are now searchable in one place.” Yes, you read that right. This thing basically watches everything you are doing online, records it, and indexes it for you to search later. So a few things: it doesn’t record Private Safari activity, and [most?] everything stays on your device. Rewind promises no one but you can access your data. I know, it certainly feels sketchy, and bringing ChatGPT into it doesn’t help. But I really think if you can get over the privacy thing, this app could prove super useful.

Stone Story RPG

You know how they say, “never judge a book by its cover?” That’s the case with this week’s game pick, Stone Story. The screenshots may look crude, but this is actually an award-winning RPG title that…I guess has already been around for a while? I’ve never heard of it, or maybe I just don’t remember it, but they have quite the little community where people make cool ASCII art and fan out about the game. Anyway, believe it or not, there are side quests, mini games, challenge events, unique weapons, unlockable weapons, and hundreds of frames of ASCII animation. Seems like a fun way to spend your Saturday afternoon if you ask me.
