Not everyone is into politics, and many people even would prefer not seeing this type of content. Because of this, Instagram automatically limits political content in Reels, in-feed recommendations, Explore, and Suggested Accounts sections.

However, if you want to get political content in all these places, you will have to change your content preferences settings or follow political accounts.

Just so we are clear, according to Instagram, political content includes content that mentions:

  • Governments
  • Elections
  • Social topics

Note: This setting will also apply to your Threads account.

Set Instagram to show more political content for you

1) Open the Instagram app and go to your profile screen.

2) Tap the menu icon from the top right, and it should open the Settings and Privacy screen. If not, select Settings first.

3) Tap Content preferences under the ‘What you see’ section.

4) Now tap Political content.

5) Select Don’t limit political content from people you don’t follow.

Note:

  • If you can’t follow the above steps, tap the menu icon and choose Suggested content > Political content. Now, select Don’t limit political content from people you don’t follow.
  • Political content setting is not available for all Instagram users and in all countries.

From now on, you may see more political posts when using Instagram. But remember that the Reel, accounts, or other suggested content may not necessarily align with your political preferences. So, to fix that, you should follow the tip below.

Connect with political content that matches your interests

Imagine you prefer posts that support Party X, but instead, what you see in your recommendations are ones that favor Party Y. To address this, you can have the Instagram algorithm adjust to your taste by doing the following:

  • Instagram won’t block content from accounts you follow, so follow people whose views align with yours.
  • Like Reels and posts that suit your preferences so you get to see more of their kind. Similarly, you can dislike content that you don’t want to see.
  • Engage with posts in other ways like leaving a comment or sharing them.

After you do this for a few days, the Instagram algorithm may get tuned to show more of what you like.
