  • What’s happening? Snap has unveiled four new features that are only available to Snapchat+ subscribers, including custom app icons and more.
  • Why care? Because most apps don’t charge for basic features like app icons.
  • What to do? If you don’t like paying for basic features, reach out to Snapchat and complain about it. Doing so probably won’t prompt a course correction for the app, but you can at least try shaming Snap a little bit on social.

What is Snapchat Plus?

Introduced on June 29, 2022, the Snapchat+ subscription promises to unlock several exclusive and early-access features in exchange for $4/month. The first exclusive feature for paid users was Snapchat for desktop, which lets you snap, chat and start video calls in a web browser through a web app at web.snapchat.com.

Snap claims it had over 1 million paying subscribers as of August 8, 2022. We questioned the reasoning behind Snapchat+, but Snap appears to know what it’s doing because a million subscribers in less than six weeks is an impressive figure. Signing up for a Snapchat+ subscription, however, does not remove advertising.

How to subscribe to Snapchat+?

Update the Snapchat app on your iPhone to the latest version [App Store link], then touch Snapchat+ on your profile. Follow the onscreen instructions to finish subscribing and get started with the exclusive features for subscribers.

Aside from these subscriber perks, Snapchat+ includes access to experimental and prerelease features and exclusive features that are unavailable to non-subscribers such as the ability to change the style of the app’s icon, see who re-watched your story, pin a contact to the top of your chat history and more.

In which countries is Snapchat+ available?

The Snapchat+ subscription is available to users in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, India, Kuwait, Qatar, Oman, Bahrain, Egypt, Israel, Sweden, Denmark, Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Belgium, Finland and Austria.
