Apple may launch OLED MacBook Air and iPad Pro models in 2024

Any given year, there are a variety of different rumors swirling around at any given time regarding upcoming products from Apple. But this year, and especially right now, it certainly feels like the rumor mill is bursting at the seams regarding devices the company is working on. Especially in the laptop category.

Another day, another Super Tweet from Display Supply Chain Consultants analyst Ross Young. This time around, he’s talking about not just a brand new MacBook coming down the pipe, but also a brand new iPad Pro model. Interestingly, these two devices will have a couple of different things in common: display technology and release date.

According to Young, Apple is working on a brand new MacBook Air and an iPad Pro that will boast OLED display panels. The new products will also reportedly see the light of day in 2024. But, since nothing is officially official just yet, there is still some time for things to change.

Specifically, while Young says the upcoming laptop with a 13-inch OLED display is likely going to be a MacBook Air, that might not remain the case by the time the device launches. So, it’s possible Apple could change the product branding by the time the company is ready to launch the device to the public.

As for the iPad Pro models, Young says Apple will introduce both the 11-inch and 12.9-inch models with OLED panels in the same year.

In a subsequent tweet, Young goes on to say that all three products will adopt a two-stack tandem structure for the OLED displays, which boasts two red, green, and blue emission layers. This means the displays will be brighter, but also consume less power. And the new displays will also feature LTPO technology for variable refresh rates, which can range between 1Hz to 120Hz. Which means the upcoming devices should promote ProMotion as well.

Apple’s path to OLED is relatively smooth, all things considered, but it’s not simply jumping from LCD to OLED. No, instead, Apple is using mini-LED to bridge the gap, so to speak. Apple already has a mini-LED display in the 12.9-inch iPad Pro, and it also introduced mini-LED display tech in its 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro models as well.

So, Apple’s first MacBook and iPad Pro with OLED display technology might launch in 2024. If that is the case, will you be one of the first customers to pick one up?
