Check out the official trailer for the Apple TV+ thriller series ‘The Essex Serpent’ starring Tom Hiddleston

The Essex Serpent has been a longtime coming for Apple TV+. What started out as a series starring Keira Knightley (Pride & Prejudice) eventually became a series starring Claire Danes (Homeland) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki). And now we finally have a trailer.

We first heard about the period drama back in 2020, when Knightley was attached to lead the cast. But by February of last year Danes had replaced Knightley, and, in March, Hiddleston joined the cast. When April rolled around the series had enlisted the help of four additional actors that made the news cycle, and from there it was just a waiting game. Expectations were that we’d see the series see the light of day before the end of 2021, but that didn’t turn out to be the case.

Now, The Essex Serpent is set to start streaming on Apple TV+ on Friday, May 13, 2022. And with only a little longer than a couple weeks to go, Apple’s finally ready to show off what has been in the works for so long.

The Essex Serpent is a period drama, a series that is set in Victorian England and includes the tale of a “mythical serpent.” Here’s Apple TV+’s official description:

Set in Victorian England featuring a star studded cast led by Claire Danes, Tom Hiddleston, Frank Dillane, Clémence Poésy and Hayley Squires, The Essex Serpent follows London widow Cora Seaborne (Danes) who moves to Essex to investigate reports of a mythical serpent. She forms an unlikely bond with the village vicar (Hiddleston), but when tragedy strikes, locals accuse her of attracting the creature.

Seems like there’s a lot going on. But, with the cast that it has, it’s possible that this drama finds quite a foothold with viewers. We’ll have to wait until next month to see how the first episode pans out.

The Essex Serpent premieres Friday, May 13, 2022. Are you going to check it out?
