‘The Essex Serpent’ series for Apple TV+ adds four to the cast

Apparently this is the week to be adding new faces to existing projects at Apple TV+. Today, we’ve got a new batch of faces that will be making their presence known in an upcoming series called The Essex Serpent.

The report comes from Variety today, detailing four new members of the cast as of today. What’s more, the original report goes into a bit of detail as to which character each of the actors will be playing in the upcoming dramatic series. The show is already set to star Claire Danes (Homeland) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki).

The newcomers are: Frank Dillane (Sense8, Fear the Walking Dead), Hayley Squires (Adult Material), Clémence Poésy (Tenet), and Jamael Westman (Animals). Dillane is pictured below, far left; Westman below, left; Squires below, right, and Poésy below, far right.

According to the original report, Dillane will be playing Luke Garret, a “pioneering young surgeon. Some call him a genius, others a liability. He’s headstrong and ambitious, and he meets his intellectual match in Cora”.

Squires will be taking on the role of Martha, who is described as being more “than just a servant in Cora’s household, she’s a highly intelligent and fiery young socialist, and Cora’s closest confidante”.

Poésy will be playing Stella Ransome, a “friendly, sympathetic and adored by her husband Will and children. A beautiful soul inside and out, she becomes a firm friend of Cora’s when she arrives in Aldwinter”.

And finally, Westman will be playing Dr. George Spencer, who is described as being Luke’s “right hand man”.

Danes took over the lead role from Keira Knightley earlier this year. And Hiddleston was confirmed to be part of the cast soon after.

No word on a release date yet for The Essex Serpent, which is based on the book of the same name written by Sarah Perry. The series is described as a drama, with Cora out of an abusive marriage, who then “relocates from Victorian London to the small village of Aldwinter in Essex, intrigued by a local superstition that a mythical creature known as the Essex Serpent has returned to the area.

Based on what we know about the project, and this cast, are you looking forward to checking this one out when it does launch?
