Check out the teaser trailer for the Apple TV+ thriller series ‘Shining Girls’ starring Elisabeth Moss

Throughout the year 2020, Apple TV+ was on a bit of a tear announcing new projects and first-look signings. But the whole entertainment industry was rattled by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, including Apple. So while many projects probably could have seen the light of day in 2021, that didn’t end up happening. So now it’s a bit of an avalanche.

Apple TV+ today has released the first teaser trailer for the upcoming thriller series Shining Girls, which is set to star Elisabeth Moss. Today’s trailer reveal is also accompanied by a release date for the series premiere, which is slated for Friday, April 29, 2022.

There will be eight episodes in the first season, and the announcement says that the first three will be made available on day one. After that, each new episode in the season will debut the following Friday.

The first two episodes will be directed by Michelle MacLaren (Breaking Bad), with Moss serving as an executive producer on the project. The whole thing is produced by Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way (with DiCaprio also listed as an executive producer). Silka Luisa is showrunner on the series, and she also adapted the project for TV.

Shining Girls is based on the novel of the same name, which was written by Lauren Beukes.

Here’s how the project is described:

“Shining Girls” follows Kirby Mazrachi (Moss) as a Chicago newspaper archivist whose journalistic ambitions were put on hold after enduring a traumatic assault. When Kirby learns that a recent murder mirrors her own case, she partners with seasoned, yet troubled reporter Dan Velazquez (played by Wagner Moura), to uncover her attacker’s identity. As they realize these cold cases are inextricably linked, their own personal traumas and Kirby’s blurred reality allow her assailant to remain one step ahead.

The upcoming series will co-star Jamie Bell (Rocketman), Phillipa Soo (Tick, Tick… Boom!), and Amy Brenneman (Heat).

This looks like it could be a wild ride. Are you looking forward to checking out Shining Girls when it starts streaming on April 29?
