Apple unveiled the third-generation AirPods on October 20, 2021, with such improvements as spatial audio support, adaptive EQ, water resistance, AirPods Pro-like design and a $179 price tag. Meanwhile, older iPhones were dropped from the AirPods 3 device compatibility list, like the third-generation iPad mini and iPhone 6s.

Inside each AirPod 3 are three microphones, one more than in the second-generation model. The third microphone is faced inward and is used to automatically tune audio to your ear. Basically, inward-facing microphones detect what you’re hearing, then adjust low- and mid-range frequencies to deliver audio details customized for you, in real-time.

AirPods 3 cost $179, with AirPods 3 discounted to $129 following AirPods 3 launch.

The old, non-MagSafe charging case is no longer available to purchase.

To be clear, the new MagSafe charging case works with any Qi chargers, just like the old one. When used with a Qi charger, however, the updated charging cases does not support MagSafe features such as magnetic alignment and faster charging.
