Apple lowers AirPods 2 price

Following product unveilings during Apple’s pre-taped presentation under the tagline “Unleashed”, the company has lowered the price of the second-generation AirPods now that AirPods 3 are available to order, going from $159 down to $129 for a pair of earbuds.

Here’s what the AirPod lineup now looks like:

  • AirPods 2 with a wired charging case: $159 → $129
  • AirPods 3 with a MagSafe charging case: $179
  • AirPods Pro with a MagSafe charging case: $249
  • AirPod Max with a wireless charging case: $549

Apple continues to offer the wireless charging case for AirPods 2, which will run you $79 a pop. However, AirPods 2 can no longer be purchased bundled with the wireless charging case for $199 now that the new AirPods 3 model is available.

The wireless charging case versions is discontinued

In other words, the second-generation AirPods can only be delivered with the standard charging case in the box, offering Lightning-based charging. The wireless charging case remains available separately for $79. Read: Featured cases for your AirPods Max

Compatible with the first and second-generation AirPods, Apple’s wireless charging case can be recharged using any Qi-compliant wireless charger. The case doesn’t work with the new AirPods 3 that ship with an updated charging case that offers MagSafe compatibility.

Apple has also confirmed that its noise-canceling AirPods Pro earbuds, still priced at $249, now ship with a MagSafe charging case. The company has not said whether it planned on offering the new MagSafe-compatible charging case as a separate item.

Features of the new AirPods 3 include an updated design with shorter stems, longer battery life, an Apple chip providing features like spatial audio support, adaptive EQ, HD voice quality for FaceTime, and more. The earbuds are IPX4-rated for water- and splash resistance.
