Start Conference Call iPhone

Have you ever tried to make plans or just chat with a group of people over text? It can get confusing, and opinions can easily get lost. Instead, try starting a conference call to get everyone on the same page, in the same conversation, and at the same time.

Conference calls are convenient for more than just work scenarios. You can chat with faraway family members, make plans with friends, or just hang out with your favorite pals from different parts of the country.

Depending on your mobile carrier, you can have up to five people on your call. To help you out, here’s how to make a conference phone call on iPhone.

Start a conference call on iPhone

  1. Get on a call with the first person.
  2. Tap add call in the Phone app while on your initial call. This will open up the Phone app interface.
  3. Call the second person you want to add from your Favorites, Recents, Contacts list, or use the Keypad. This will put the current call on hold.
  4. Once the new call is connected, tap merge calls, and it will begin the group conversation.

Note: Keep in mind that conference calling may not be available if you use Voice over LTE (VoLTE) or Wi-Fi calling.

Add a new incoming caller to your existing call

Suppose you’re on a normal or conference call, and someone else calls you. You can add them to the ongoing call by following these steps:

  1. Tap Hold & Accept.
  2. Once the call connects, tap merge calls.

Conference call options

Here are a few other things you can do while on a conference call:

  • Talk privately to one person: Tap the blue info button ⓘ and then tap Private for that name or number. Tap merge calls to return to the conference call. Note: Not all carriers support this feature.
  • Remove a conference call participant: Tap the info icon ⓘ and then hit End.
End Conference Call Participant

Who can see the participants of the conference call?

  • If you (caller 1) started the conference call, only you can see the names of all the participants of this group call.
  • And, if another participant (caller 2) of the current group call adds one more person (caller 3), then the participant (caller 2) will see your name (caller 1) and the name of the person they added (caller 3).

Don’t see the option to merge calls?

If you don’t see the option to merge calls or can’t call the second person without the first call disconnecting, that means your carrier does not support conference calls. You can reach out to them for a better answer or port your number to another carrier.
