The Benefits of Jailbreaking the Apple TV

Apple has always stated that the Apple TV is more of a "hobby" device than a mainstream one, as its popularity level isn't even on the radar compared to hits like the iPhone, iPad or even iPod touch.

Still, there are many, many benefits to owning an Apple TV. There's iTunes movies and TV shows, Netflix streaming, access to NBA and NHL games, and iTunes match among other features.

But if you really want to reap the full rewards of owning Apple's marvelous $99 wonder box, you need to jailbreak it.

Why jailbreak the Apple TV? We'll touch on some of the major benefits that comes from doing so.

iPhone 5 Concept: Two Home Buttons

This concept video shows an iPhone 5 sporting not one, but two home buttons, right on the sides of the screen. I fail to see how practical this would be, especially when holding your iPhone in just one hand.

iOS Battery Update: iOS 5.1 Beta 3

A week after the release of iOS 5.1 beta 3 the biggest question that seems to be getting asked repeatedly is one that we have become accustomed to ever since the release of iOS 5, back in October. Yes, you guessed it – is the battery life any better yet?

We have been talking about battery life in iOS quite a bit since the issue first reared its ugly head, and we've discovered that it isn't just an iPhone 4S issue, but rather something Apple changed in iOS 5. Since then the company has issued a full update in iOS 5.0.1 and a series of iOS 5.1 betas, but has the latest improved things any? Can we expect to get back to iOS 4.x-levels of battery life?

Well, no, not really...

Do Unread Notification Numbers on Your iPhone Drive You Insane?

Our iPhones are constantly demanding our attention with little bings, bongs and flashy lights. Apple's addition of Notification Center in iOS 5 has only heightened the need to keep your iPhone's notifications in check, but just how much so?

I sit here now, looking at an iPhone homescreen with no less than ten, yes ten different little red bubbles telling me there is something I need to do. Something that apparently needs my attention before the world falls into some kind of disorganized chaos that can only result in it falling off its axis.

Or something like that...

Batman’s iPad-Inspired Bike is Awesome!

All kinds of weird and wonderful things pop up at CES, and this year's event was no different. Possibly the most off-the-wall thing we've come across has to be this custom bike, put together by Mark Abate.

If Batman had a bike made that featured an iPad and two LCD panels where the mirrors used to be, then we are fairly certain this is what it would look like! If neon lights and huge speakers aren't enough to get your juices flowing, just look at the size of those tires...

CydiaBulletin: Receive Notifications When Cydia Apps Are Updated

Wouldn't it be super swell if you could receive a notification directly in Notification Center when your favoirite jailbreak app or tweak received an update?

Apparently jailbreak developer Ryan Petrich thinks so too. Hence, he has started working on a Notification Center tweak aptly entitled (tentatively at least) CydiaBulletin.

Thankfully, it looks like the days of furiously refreshing Cydia are numbered...

RedSn0w Updated With iBooks Fix in Tow

Hot off the heels of the Corona iBooks fix, MuscleNerd tweeted that RedSn0w has been updated to 0.9.10b4 to incorporate the fix for Apple's mobile book app.

The good news for current RedSn0w users is that all you have to do is rerun the new version over your existing jailbreak in order to receive the fix.

This is a Jailbroken iPhone 4S

A few days ago we told you that pod2g and his fellow hackers were getting close to completing an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices. This includes both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S.

While we still don't have an exact release date, pod2g did give us something to wet our appetites. The hacker has just posted a video to his blog of an untethered jailbreak running on Apple's latest handset...

Corona Jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 Updated to Fix iBooks

The release of the Corona untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 hasn't come with its fair share of problems, which led the Chronic Dev Team to update the tool a couple weeks ago to fix the Launchctl error.

Unfortunately, this update was not enough to fix all the problems inherent to Corona. The main issue that users have been experiencing is with the iBooks app, which would just display an error message at launch. We shared a few workarounds with you to fix this problem, but we knew an official fix was on the way...

CommandSpot: Launch Apps and Respring from Spotlight

Want to launch apps, reboot, respring, or turn off your iDevice right from your Spotlight search? If so, then all you need is a jailbroken device with CommandSpot installed.

CommandSpot is a jailbreak tweak that allows you to execute specific commands to launch apps, Twitter, Facebook, and quite a few other things. It's not the most efficient way to perform these functions, but it can be done nonetheless.

CDevReporter Jailbreak Tweak Automatically Sends iOS Crash Reports to Chronic Dev Team

Several weeks ago we told you about the Chronic Dev Team's Crash Reporter desktop tool. Jailbreakers can download and install the package to redirect iOS crash reports from iTunes to the Chronic Dev Team hackers. The reports are then used to find exploits and help further jailbreak research.

A new Cydia tweak has surfaced that automatically sends crash reports to the Chronic Dev Team from your iOS device. CDevReporter is available for free can be installed on any jailbroken iOS device today.
