Apple’s Been Interested in the TV Industry for Over 15 Years

There's been a lot of talk over the last few months about Apple releasing its own TV set. While several pundits and analysts are expecting a game-changer from the iPhone-makers, others don't think the company has the experience to make it in the TV industry.

Apple's been indirectly involved in the TV industry since 2006, when it unveiled the first edition of its Apple TV set top box. But, as you can see from the above photo, Apple's been working on a way to invade our living rooms for over 15 years...

Apple to Start Using Halogen-Free USB Cables

Apple's been on a roll over the last few days, releasing a detailed supplier list for the first time, and joining the Fair Labor Association. But the company's not just stopping with improving the working conditions of its supply chain.

It's also working on improving its environmental footprint. The London Evening Standard is reporting that Apple has asked Volex, the manufacturer that makes all of its USB and power cables, to switch to halogen-free materials...

Singapore Carriers to Offer iPhone 4S Models Without Cameras

This is kind of interesting. The JakartaGlobe is reporting that three of Apple's Singapore-based carrier partners are planning to offer camera-less iPhone 4S models to their subscribers in the near future.

While this removes one of the handset's biggest features — its 8MP camera, it does make the device more appealing to the the military crowd. Which is perfect, because that's exactly who they're targeting...

Why I’m a Fan of Technology, Not Just Apple

This year's CES seems to have raised an interesting question, and it's one that I've pondered myself on occasion. It's an issue that often comes around whenever there is a trade show that Apple does not attend, so that's basically all of them these days.

Take the recent CES as an example. Apple has not attended, and that has led many Apple blogs and fans to take a dim view upon anything and everything that has taken place. What it boils down to is this: if Apple doesn't do it, it must be rubbish. Pointless, even. Why would anyone be even remotely interested?

So the question is this: why do some people seem to be such diehard Apple fans, or even that awful term "fanboys," that they just cannot seem to appreciate anything that comes out of a company that doesn't have a half-eaten fruit on its masthead...

App Store Apps Now Show “Quick Look” Previews in iTunes

Apple's iTunes is far from ideal as a home for the App Store, but we've made do with it for so long that it just sort of feels like home. Apple has made a subtle change to the way iTunes displays app information on a computer.

Until now, the only way to see an app's description was to click it and wait for iTunes to refresh itself and display the app's own page. Now things are a little less clunky, with a new preview option added to app listings.

Corona Exploit Reportedly Patched in iOS 5.1

After months of waiting, an untethered jailbreak compatible with iOS 5 was finally released in late December. Although it doesn't work with A5 devices, the exploit is effective on a number of products, including both the iPad and the iPhone 4.

But it doesn't look like it will be that way for much longer. Multiple jailbreak developers are reporting that Apple has patched the Corona exploit, used in the untethered jailbreak, in the latest version of its mobile operating system iOS 5.1...

Verizon’s LTE Requirement Still a Ways Off

Yesterday, we passed on a report from CNET that claimed that Verizon would soon be enforcing a "hard requirement" that all future smartphones be LTE-compatible. The news made some sense considering the carrier has been leading the LTE movement.

But today, the Mac Observer is reporting that they've heard a different story. While Verizon might eventually start requiring manufacturers to incorporate LTE chips into their products, it doesn't look like it'll be happening anytime soon...
