Will a Qualcomm Baseband Grace the Innards of the iPhone 5?

More potential iPhone 5 goodies to start your weekend off right. Well known Italian hacker, Zibri, has documented his findings from a recent decompile of the latest version of iTunes, uncovering some interesting tidbits.

According to him, the decompile uncovered two files that are quick and easy indicators that future iPhone basebands will be Qualcomm Based. What does this mean for the future of the iPhone?

XBMC Now Available For the iPhone And Other iOS Devices

I can honestly say that I never expected to see XBMC running on my iPhone in a million years. It's still kind of surreal adding the Cydia repo, downloading the packages, and installing the whole shebang.

The good news is that it's definitely XBMC, in fact it looks like the devs applied a shrinking ray to my 50" TV, because the port is dead on from a looks perspective.

Unfortunately, though, that's where the inherent problems start to arise, at least on the iPhone's teeny touch screen...

Apple’s App Store Hits 10 Billion Downloads

Well, it's official. The Apple App Store has hit yet another milestone in record time, with over 10 billion downloads to its name. That's truly an amazing feat for a merchandising method that didn't exist just a few years ago.

As we reminded you in a previous article leading up to this event, the App Store hit the 1 Billionth download a little less than 2 years ago. It's crazy to think that since April 2009, the App Store has served up over 9 billion downloads, but it has...

iPhone iOS 4.2.1 Untethered Jailbreak Showcased by Chronic Dev Team

Well, well, well. It looks like someone else is getting into the untethered jailbreak fun for iOS 4.2.1. That's right, today Chronic Dev Team unveiled a teaser video showcasing their untethered jailbreak for the iPhone.

Chronic Dev, the creators of the popular GreenPois0n jailbreak tool, are the same devs behind this upcoming tool for iOS 4.2.1, but they aren't alone in the rush to untether Apple's latest public firmware.

As you know, the Dev Team has been working on beta versions of RedSn0w that is also capable of jailbreaking iOS 4.2.1 untethered.

The more options, the merrier! Check inside for the sweet video details...

iPhone 5 Launch Scheduled for “Summer At The Earliest”

Rumors about the iPhone 5 and iOS 4.3 have been running rampant lately. While a lot of "leaks" and speculation has been made about Apple's major upcoming version of iOS, not much has been said about the iPhone 5's hardware. All we've heard is a report from Engadget that the iPhone 5 will be a "total redesign" of the current version.

The mysterious device is rumored to have Apple's new A5 CPU processor, a universal baseband for all carriers, and a larger display with no home button. No specific launch date has been set, and apparently only the head honchos at Apple have access to iPhone 5 prototypes.

The iPhone 5 was rumored to have hit the testing stage back in October of 2010, so it's not a stretch to say that field testing units are in circulation at Cupertino. Apple has yet to divulge any direct information about the iPhone 5, but a new report claims that we won't be seeing a product launch before summer. That is, unless one gets left in a bar again...

‘No Rotation Status’ Proves That Good Things Come in Small Packages

No Rotation Status is your classic variety of jailbreak tweak. It does something extremely simple; tweaking an element that would probably go unnoticed to all but the most eagle-eyed iPhone user.

As its name implies, No Rotation Status gets rid of the rotation lock icon in your status bar, even when you have rotation lock enabled.

This can be especially useful for those of you sporting tweaks like Lock Info, where status bar real estate can become a matter of real concern...

New Universal iPhone Bumper Released, But Will the Verizon iPhone Really Need It?

All signs are pointing to the fact that the iPhone 4's antenna issues have been resolved by means of the subtle changes made to Verizon's version of the iPhone 4.

Even still, that's not preventing Apple from seeking to cash in on bumper sales, as previous bumpers have been phased out in favor of new universal bumpers that fit both AT&T's and Verizon's iPhone.

Check out the video inside for the side-by-side bumper comparison...

New iPhone 4 Case Mod Puts You in the Clear, Literally

I've seen some cool case mods in my day, but I'd be hard pressed to come up with a slicker looking mod than this.

Following up on the heels of the metal back covers we showed you back in December, this latest mod surpasses even those.

Introducing the transparent iPhone 4 case mod, yes that's right transparent; as in: you can see your iPhone's guts...

Verizon ‘It Begins’ Commercial Teases the iPhone to Customers

Verizon has launched full swing into its iPhone ad campaign with a new broadcast commercial. Just in case you've been under a rock lately, the Verizon iPhone has finally arrived and is available on February 10.

The Verizon iPhone is going to be huge, and this commercial definitely plays it up. The 30 second tease is even perhaps a little too dramatic, but I guess when you've been waiting as long as Verizon, you deserve a little room for hyperbole...

Rumor: Apple Bringing Landscape Mode to the Home Screen and New Multitouch Gestures in iOS 4.3

The Apple rumor mill has been churning fast and furiously over the past few weeks. There's been more white iPhone 4 speculation, some details about the iPhone 5 released, and the rumor that the next iPhone will be without a home button.

Details about iOS 4.3 have started to emerge in light of the beta that Apple recently made available to the developer community. Among these details, it seems that, after the failure of Ping, Apple may be trying its luck again with another social media attempt.

The iPad's home screen has had landscape mode compatibility since product launch, but Apple has not yet brought that feature to the iPhone. Many have asked for a landscape home screen, but it has been absent from the iPhone for years. Well, that is, until now...

iPhone Game ‘Death Worm’ Makes You Feel Like Bait

Death Worm [iTunes Link] was created by PlayCreek and is perfect for gamers with those midnight munchies for delectable human corpses. A couple months ago I reviewed Super Mega Worm and had so much fun with it that I decided to give Death Worm a round, or in my case many rounds!

Just like Super Mega Worm, you control a worm with only one purpose, to eat or destroy anything that moves.

This game packs a full course meal! First as an appetizer, we have animals such as birds, elephants and more.  Next for your entree you can choose between mindless pedestrians or police officers. Too light? How about Bazooka carrying Soldiers. Also as a side dish you can devour cars, trucks and other land vehicles. Finally for desert, we have a few different helicopters, planes or the ultimate surprise… UFO's!! Still hungry? Well you can choose between 3 different locations!

Fake Ra1nb0wRa1n iPhone Jailbreak Website Deemed Not the Real Deal

Getting confused from all of the Ra1n? There's BlackRa1n, LimeRa1n, PurpleRa1n, and the upcoming RubyRa1n. It's enough to confuse even the best meteorologist.

To add to the level of confusion, someone(s) impersonating renowed iPhone hacker GeoHot has released a site called Ra1nb0wRa1n with little to no fan fare.

The fact that it received hardly any pub before going live was the first thing that struck us as weird. The fact that the site is actually pointing to a Chinese website, is the real thing that sent up our red flags.

For the record, although the site's whois records feature Hotz's name and a New Jersey residence, Ra1nb0wRa1n does not appear to be associated with GeoHot in any way, shape, or form...
