Conditions weather app also takes creative approach in dealing with pirates

Yesterday, we told you about Tapbots' entertaining way it deals with folks who pirate its popular Tweetbot app. If you download the Twitter client without paying for it, it will auto-insert an embarrassing phrase into its Tweet sheet.

But the guys on the Tapbots team aren't the only ones having fun with pirates. Jake Marsh, creator of the new Conditions weather app, also takes a creative approach in dealing with people who steal his work. Check it out...

This toy iPhone appears to be jailbroken

We're not sure if this is cool, or copyright infringement, but either way here you go. We've come across what appears to be a toy iPhone, that has seemingly been jailbroken. Notice the Cydia icon in the bottom row of icons?

Of course, it's not called an iPhone. The packaging reads 'Telephone Intelligent.' And instead of Cydia, the iconic brown icon is labeled 'Gift.' But either way, it sure looks like someone is selling toy jailbroken iPhones...

Ousted Apple retail boss John Browett lands CEO job at fashion retailer

In today's episode of 'Where are they now?' we take a look at Apple's former SVP of retail John Browett. He began his career at Apple in January of last year, replacing the highly-regarded Ron Johnson, but only lasted about 9 months at the company.

Browett has been fairly quiet since he left Cupertino in October. But his name surfaced in headlines again last night when word got out that he has accepted the position of chief executive, or CEO, of U.K.-based retail chain Monsoon Accessorize...

Joy of Tech weighs in on iWatch rumors

Talk of Apple working on a smartwatch has really heated up over the past week. Following a speculative piece from a former Apple engineer, both the NYT and the WSJ have reported that the company is indeed building such a product.

So what will this so-called iWatch do? Things like Siri, NFC and support for third-party apps have all been thrown about. But according to the folks over at Joy of Tech, the watch's built-in Dyson hand drier will be its killer feature...

Apple updates Knowledge Base article on jailbreaking

It's pretty obvious that Apple doesn't want people jailbreaking its devices. While the company isn't going out and suing hackers like ahem, Sony did, it's not exactly making it any easier for them to open up its mobile OS either.

And the company's disdain for the process is especially evident in its Knowledge Base article on jailbreaking, which points out that unauthorized modification of iOS can cause instability and other major device issues...

Glitch in Sprint’s GPS service points Find My iPhone users to innocent man’s house

Imagine you are awoken in the middle of the night by someone pounding loudly at your door. It's a man and his girlfriend, and they're upset because someone just stole her iPhone, and the Find My iPhone app led them straight to your house. Now imagine this is a regular occurrence.

Unfortunately for Wayne Dobson, he doesn't have to imagine. Due to a glitch in Sprint's location-tracking services, phone finding apps have been sending owners of missing iPhones and other handsets, as well as police, to Dobson's home in North Las Vegas for the past two years...

The iPhone quick-draw system

What's your take on belt clip cell phone holsters? I used to sell cell phones, and I would cringe every time a customer would buy one. They'd say, "it's just so accessible." I even had one guy show me how much faster it was taking it out of the holster than it was his pocket. Ok.

But what if you want that kind of accessibility, without the fashion faux pas? Then you might be a candidate for this new iPhone quick-draw system. The contraption fits around your arm, and catapults your iPhone from under your sleeve to your hand in milliseconds...

IDEO founder David Kelley talks Steve Jobs, his first iPhone and more

This is kind of cool. David Kelley, the founder of IDEO, an international design firm and innovation consultancy, spoke with CBS' 60 Minutes last night about a wide range of things, including his close relationship with Steve Jobs.

IDEO played a big role in early Apple, designing its first Mouse, the Lisa, and more. And naturally, this bore a friendship between the two founders, giving Kelley some great Jobs stories—particularly one about his first iPhone...

Weird bug adds ‘praises the iPad’ at the end of Google queries

The rivalry between Apple and Google is arguably one of the biggest in the tech world, maybe even the world in general. The two companies are constantly fighting each other for smartphone and tablet marketshare, and they both have legions of loyal fans.

That's what makes this next story so amusing. A new bug has been discovered in the Google Now and Translate apps that show Apple a bit more love than you'd expect from a rival. Enter the right queries, and both apps will, oddly enough, "praise the iPad."

Burglary at Microsoft research campus, only iPads taken

Here's a funny little story for your Saturday morning. A report popped up yesterday that Microsoft communicated to police earlier this week that there had been a burglary in one of the buildings on its campus in Mountain View, California.

The thief, or thieves, broke into 3 offices in Building 5 on the campus between December 19 and 26, when most folks were gone for the holidays. And — here's the funny part — despite all of the gadgets laying around, only iPads were taken...

Apple products trend on 2012’s most popular baby names list

Did you know that in 2012, it's become completely acceptable to name your newborn after an Apple product? In fact, it's not only acceptable, it's become quite trendy.

BabyCenter just published their list of this year's most popular baby names. And while choices like Siri and Apple didn't make the top 100, they did shoot up the charts...

If only this iPad mini parody clip was the real deal

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EaW6IiWKHAk

After watching this, I'm beginning to wonder if somebody at Apple should seriously consider hiring Cinesaurus, a Seattle-based creative team "obsessed with telling stories through video and animation". They're also behind an excellent Surface parody video that teaches Microsoft how to advertise against the iPad...
