Concept imagines Apple Watch OS running on an iPhone 6

Apple's announcements of the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus this week were largely expected, but the real surprises of the keynote came from the Apple Watch, a wearable device with a custom-designed OS. With a home screen filled with a honeycomb-like grid of circular icons and navigated largely by zooming, the Apple Watch is different from anything we've seen from Apple in the past.

Following the announcement, Andras Horvath has posted a concept video to his channel imagining what the iPhone 6 would be like if it ran the software found on the Apple Watch. The result is an interface that is surprisingly pleasant and intuitive. Browsing through apps in this manner seems perhaps more appealing than the standard home screen layout of iOS.

The Apple Watch has been long in the making so it doesn't come as a surprise that resident critics would scratch their head over its square design as soon as Apple took the wraps off the $349 device on Tuesday.

With the iPhone 6 expected to get one of its largest redesigns ever, designers have spent the last year creating concepts of what they believe the handset will look like. Some of them would probably be better suited for a science fiction novel, but others have looked fairly plausible.

I'm sure most of you are as tired of iPhone 6 concepts as I am—between rumors of a redesign and the constant barrage of part leaks, designers have had more to work with than years past—but these new mockups from Thomas Moyano and Nicolas Aichino are worth noting.

The images depict Apple's handset with all of the rumored hardware changes, including the thinner profile, rounded edges and relocated Power button. But there's one major difference between this design and all of the others we've seen thus far: no ugly antenna break lines...

Philips demos Notification Center widget on iOS 8 for controlling Hue lights

Just a few hours ago, Philips tweeted a concept image of a prototype Notification Center widget that could be used for controlling its Hue lineup of iOS connected bulbs and lights. As it stands, this functionality is provided through the Philips Hue app for iPhone, iPad and iPod touch. But this extension concept reveals that users could have more convenient access to an off button and different lighting settings without launching the app.

Notification Center widgets are a new feature in iOS 8 that Apple announced at its WWDC keynote earlier this week. Developers are able to build extensions that provide systemwide functionality through widgets in Today view, something that has been possible through jailbreaking for several years. Concept imagines how Apple could implement Home screen widgets in iOS

Ah, the widgets. Among the defining Android features, widgets regularly find themselves on top of many people's wish list for iOS. Apple does not provide iOS widget functionality, though it's a non-issue to folks who are jailbroken thanks to literally hundreds, if not thousands, of widgets in Cydia.

I guess you could go as far as saying widgets are one of the prime allures of jailbreaking. While no one outside Apple can't really tell whether or not the company will ever allow widgets into the App Store, we can always speculate: there's (some) hope for widgets in iOS as Tim Cook alluded to opening up iOS a little bit more for third party developers in the future.

Until that day comes, non-jailbreakers are stuck with a bunch of concepts. Enter Jay Machalani, the brains behind this remarkable concept envisioning widgets in iOS. 'iOS Blocks', as he calls them, resemble Live Tiles in Windows and can be moved around and placed anywhere on the Home screen with a simple gesture...

Take Healthbook for a virtual test drive on your iPhone

Apple is expected to unveil iOS 8 at its upcoming WWDC keynote in just one week. A number of new features and apps are expected to be announced, one of them being Healthbook. The health-focused app is said to provide users with vital information, such as heart rate, hydration, blood pressure, respiratory rate, oxygen saturation, blood sugar, weight and more.

An increasing amount of speculation about Healthbook has inspired visual designer Jayaprasad Mohanan to create a live demo of the app that you can try right on your iPhone. Should Apple overhaul iTunes, it better resemble this minimalist concept

What is iTunes nowadays? Is it a jukebox application for Mac and Windows PCs, as it was conceived as such more than a decade ago? Is it the storefront software found on your iOS devices. A device management solution, perhaps?

Could it simply be a media player with a built-in music store? A video store, you say? Sure! A podcast store? That, too! A books store?

It's all of these things combined, and then some more.

This is precisely why folks have grown increasingly frustrated by iTunes. And herein lies the problem with iTunes, as we know it today: whatever the app is these days, there's no escaping the fact it's become hopelessly bloated, counterintuitive and just way too cluttered.

That's why UK-based designer Brye Kobayashi set out to lay out his vision for a total iTunes revamp, taking inspiration from iOS 7 while borrowing certain concepts from Apple's stock Music app for the iPhone and iPad. It's pure minimalism, looks gorgeous and I want it now!

Beautiful new concept envisions iWatch as a high-end wristwatch

One of the crazier rumors we've heard thus far involving the iWatch comes from analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, who said the accessory may cost as much as 'several thousand dollars.' Kuo is well respected in the Apple community, but this particular prediction seemed a bit off.

That is, unless the iWatch ends up looking like this new concept from Curved/labs that surfaced earlier this week. The site envisions the rumored smartwatch looking like a high-end Rolex, with a digital chronograph face, wireless charging, and several other features...

Tech site Tech Radar is out with a new iOS 8 concept video this afternoon, depicting what it thinks the new firmware could look like. We actually know, or think we know, quite a bit about Apple's next mobile OS thanks to a number of reports, and this clip helps visualize all of that information.

The video covers most of everything we've heard thus far. It shows a revamped Notification Center, with a new easy-to-read layout, and the oft-rumored Healthbook app connecting to an iWatch. It also suggests how Siri could use Shazam's tech, and how CarPlay could help keep drivers safe...

New iPhone 6 mockups based on leaked case dimensions and other intel

Well-known designer and concept artist Martin Hajek has teamed up with the folks over at Nowhereelse.fr to create what could be the most accurate iPhone 6 renderings to date. The mockups show a device that was created based on recent information, including MacFan's schematic drawing from last month, and this week's case leak.

For the most part, the renderings match up with everything we've seen thus far regarding Apple's next smartphone. Hajek depicts the iPhone 6 as extremely thin, with rounded corners, and a display that's noticeably larger than current models. It also features a new Sleep/Wake button, which has been moved to the right side of the handset...

Jaw-dropping iPad Pro concept: MagSafe, better multitasking, surround sound and more

So, is there a room for a new-category device, something between the tablet and the notebook? If you ask rumormongers, apparently there is.

Those of you who've been keeping tabs on the rumor mill are aware that Apple may or may not release a rumored 12.9-inch iPad this year - the latest intel points to a 2014 launch.

Maybe that's why we're not seeing compelling iPad Pro concepts, except for this one, but that has changed today thanks to Ramotion, an iPhone app development company. You may remember Ramotion for their previous eye candy concepts such as the OS X 11 mockup with an iOS 7-style flat interface or this one envisioning what Viber's iOS 7 redesign should look like.
