Hands-on with Couria, an upcoming quick reply and quick compose tweak for iOS 8

Couria is a quick reply and quick compose tweak for iOS that originally debuted back in the iOS 7 days. Today, the Messaging landscape for jailbroken devices is significantly different, with a key major player, biteSMS, now defunct.

With this in mind, a few tweaks that are currently in the works are hoping to reinvigorate the Messaging app tweak genre. One of them, Couria, plays heavily on the infrastructure already put in place by Apple, piggybacking on the native quick reply feature in iOS 8.

Sony’s new PlayStation Vue streaming TV service coming to iPad soon

Yesterday, Sony launched its long-anticipated streaming television service called PlayStation Vue in select markets like Chicago, New York City and Philadelphia. The online video subscription service doesn't require a cable or satellite subscription.

It will be initially available on the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 consoles and is coming to Apple's iPad “in the near future,” the Japanese giant has confirmed.

Apple Watch: a deeper look at the Activity app in iOS 8.2

For the last few hours I've been playing with the Activity app on iOS 8.2. The Activity app is a stock app included in iOS 8.2, but it's currently hidden until you connect an Apple Watch. Thanks to developer Hamza Sood, I was able to access the app early and take it for a a test drive on video. Here's what I found...

Multify: an awesome new multitasking tweak for iOS 8

Every so often a big tweak comes around that gets me more excited than most, and Multify—a new tweak from John Corbett and Joel Einbinder—meets that criteria to a tee. Multify is an upcoming tweak that brings true multitasking to iOS in an easy to use and surprisingly stable package. Yes, other tweaks have attempted to do similar things in the past, but this is by far the best implementation that I've seen or used thus far.

You can now watch Vines offline

Vine, a Twitter-owned video service that lets anyone share funny looping clips with the web at large, or just their followers, has received a nice update Wednesday.

Available as a free update in the App Store, the app now lets fans watch Vines quicker than ever, even with a slower or no Internet connection. You’ll also see that posts show up more quickly than before.

Lithium: theme the battery indicator on iOS 8 sans WinterBoard

Lithium is a brand new jailbreak tweak that adds a themed battery indicator to iOS 8. A similar tweak with a similar name, Alkaline, already exists on the Cydia store, and Lithium pretty much replicates the feeling of that tweak.

While some users report that Alkaline works perfectly on their iOS 8 device, it's never worked without a visual glitch on my iPhone 6 Plus. For that reason, I'd be up for trying Lithium on an extended basis.

How to extract images from apps with the Preview app on Mac

Applications on the Mac are really just directory structures containing files, images, assets, executables, and the like. If you've ever right-clicked on an application and selected Show Package Contents, then you know exactly what I mean.

While right-clicking is a reasonable solution for extracting image, font, and other visible assets from an application, the Preview app makes doing so even easier. By simply dragging and dropping an app on the Preview app icon in the dock, you're presented with a easy navigable thumbnail view of all of the app's various assets.

How to tab between dialogue box buttons on Mac

Tab key on Mac's keyboard

The tabbing experience on Mac might feel a little gimped if you're coming from a Windows machine. That's because, by default, macOS makes it so that the option to move keyboard focus between all controls with the Tab key is disabled. Instead, tabbing is only possible between text boxes and lists using the default setting. In this tutorial, I'll show you two quick and easy ways to change this setting and enable a much-improved tabbing experience on your Mac.

How to get WhatsApp voice calling on your jailbroken iPhone

If you're jailbroken, and have a little patience, you can get WhatsApp's new in-beta voice calling feature on your iPhone right now. To do so, you'll need to download the WhatsApp beta, download a package from Cydia, and following a couple of additional steps.

After following this tutorial, you will be able to access voice calling in WhatsApp. I can personally verify that this technique works, and was able to shoot a video walkthrough showing you the steps along with a live phone call.

HiddenConvos: a sleek way to hide conversations in the Messages app

Normally I would shoot a video to highlight a jailbreak tweak, but seeing as I'd probably have to blur out most of the video, I decided to go about it the old fashioned way. I hope that I can accurately portray just how awesome HiddenConvos is without the assistance of video, because it's really that good.

HiddenConvos is a tweak that allows you to quickly hide conversations in the Messages app using a simple left-swipe gesture. Once you left-swipe on a conversation, tap the Hide button to hide the conversation from view and suppress its notifications.

Popular Lock screen launcher atom is coming to iPad

One of the most popular Lock screen launchers for iOS 8 is headed to iPad. Atom, the Surenix-designed and Daniel Turner-developed atomic-inspired Lock screen launcher, is headed to the big screen. We've got a first hands-on look at atom for iPad, including a summation of the tweak's iPad-exclusive feature.

Tim Cook calls into CNBC’s ‘Mad Money’, talks ResearchKit, Apple Pay and more

It seemed like just another episode of Mad Money, CNBC's polarizing financial TV show, until host Jim Cramer took a call from "Tim in California." As you've probably guessed by now, it was Apple CEO Tim Cook on the line, prompting cheers from a surprised studio.

Cook began the call by congratulating Cramer on "10 great years of Mad Money," but it was clear he had other things to talk about. The first thing was ResearchKit, Apple's medical research app platform it unveiled on Monday, which as already had over 10,000 signups.
