Hackers starting to make progress with iOS 5.1 jailbreak

We haven't really heard much on the jailbreak front since iOS 5.1 came out. The software update patched all previous exploits, meaning anyone who upgraded, lost their ability to jailbreak (well, A4 devices can still be jailbroken).

But we have good news today for the folks that have updated their devices to 5.1. Pod2g, who was largely responsible for Absinthe and Corona, says that he now has all of the exploits necessary to start working on a new jailbreak...

Saurik is on a roll with his Cydia updates today. Earlier this morning he rolled out a new version of WinterBoard. And now we're going to take a look at the also-new-today Mobile Substrate update.

For those that aren't familiar with it, Mobile Substrate is the de facto framework that allows 3rd-party developers to provide extensions to system functions. And it just received a killer new feature...

WinterBoard receives major update

WinterBoard. It seems like just mentioning the name of the utility can send shivers down the spine of jailbreakers everywhere. In fact, a lot of folks won't install a particular app or tweak of it requires installing the unpopular themer.

So what's wrong with it? Speed, stability, you name it. WinterBoard has long been a scapegoat for jailbreak-related problems. But the utility may be worth a second look now, as it has just received a major update...

It took them a while but Facebook has finally updated their iPad application with Retina display graphics. The update also brings a few new features as well as minor bug fixes.

Considering how big Facebook is, I find it slightly disappointed they take so long to release such a simple update. Anyway, we have listed the full change log below for those of you interested...

Apple ups developer iAd revenue share to 70%

As noted by 9to5Mac, Apple has announced that developers will now start receiving 70% of the revenue generated by iAds in their applications. That's a 10% increase over the 60% cut they received in the previous arrangement.

The move isn't surprising considering how much trouble the mobile advertising service has had gaining traction. Apple has even had to adjust the numbers for advertisers, dropping the entry-level price from $1 million to $100,000...

Those of you that appreciate a good prank might not want to install the new Cydia update. Saurik just announced that he has pushed out Cydia 1.1.6 to remove last year's Twitter-inspired "dickbar" April Fools' Day joke.

For those of you unfamiliar with the holiday, April Fools' Day falls on the first day of April and is celebrated around the world with good-natured pranks and hoaxes. But apparently not everyone has a sense of humor...

This means that folks with an Apple TV 2 can upgrade (if you haven't already) to the latest ATV firmware, which features the new user interface, and still keep their ability to jailbreak...
