As if we didn't already have enough ways to check in on Twitter, now we have TV to help us satiate our narcissistic tendencies. A new third-party Twitter client has popped up exclusively on the fourth-generation Apple TV so you can see what your friends are talking about.

Airfeed for Twitter sends the most recent tweets in your feed directly to your TV screen so you don't have to, you know, get out your iPhone. We've got a hands-on review of Airfeed for Twitter for you today.

Periscope gains skipping ahead in replays, Trending section, 3D Touch shortcuts and more

Twitter-owned live-broadcasting app, Periscope, was updated in the App Store last evening with half a dozen new features and refinements aimed at improving the usefulness of video replays whilst improving content discovery with new tools such as an-all new Trending section to help you find content from popular broadcasters.

Pericope also has a tvOS app for the new Apple TV and recently refreshed the iPhone version with muting, Handoff support, instant replays, finding location-enabled broadcasts, verified badges, Follower Only mode, Global section and more.

Twitter app update makes polls available to everyone

Twitter on Monday pushed out an update to its mobile apps, bringing the iPhone client to version 6.40.3. The update doesn't any major changes or improvements, but it does bring about full support for the social network's new polling feature.

Introduced last month, Twitter Polls allows users to quickly and easily create two-choice polls. The feature has been rolling out to some users over the past few weeks, but after today's update, everyone should be able to access it from within the app.

Vine app updated with hearts and new ‘Similar Vines’ feature

Twitter on Friday pushed out an update for its popular video-sharing Vine app, bringing the iPhone client to version 4.3. The update is a minor one, as the release notes only mention a few changes, but there are two new features worth mentioning.

The first is the addition of Hearts, which bring the app more in line with Twitter's other products. Like the social network did earlier this week, Vine has replaced its 'Favorites' (the smiley face) feature with a new, more meaningful heart-shaped icon.

Facebook reportedly launching standalone news app next week

Facebook is preparing to launch a new standalone news app next week, according to The Financial Times. Citing sources familiar with the project, the outlet says that the app is going to be called Notify, and it is going to feature content from dozens of media partners including CBS and Vogue.

As reported by BusinessInsider in August, the app will look similar to Twitter, in that it will allow publications to blast short push notifications to “followers” when they have urgent news to share. If users want to read more about a headline, the can click a link that will take them to the full story.

For better or worse, Twitter’s Stars and Favorites are now Hearts and Likes

So you've been starring and favoriting tweets for later use in your favorite Twitter client, just like many other die-hard Twitter fans do? Well, starting today all those Stars and Favorites shall be presented henceforth as Hearts and Likes, the micro-blogging startup unexpectedly announced today.

The rebranding effort is meant to permit Twitter fans to show how they feel on Twitter “without missing a beat,” but already the change seems to have drawn ire and ridicule from hardcore fans of the service.

Twitter raises follow limit from 2,000 to 5,000 people for all users

Maybe you were totally oblivious to the fact that Twitter imposes a ceiling to how many people you can follow on the service, but that's how they roll.

Be that as it may, you might be delighted to learn that the micro-blogging startup is raising its previous follow limit of 2,000 accounts per user to a total of 5,000 accounts.

Once you’ve followed 5,000 users on Twitter, there are limits to the number of additional users you can follow based on your specific follower-to-following ratio.

This change goes into effect today, said the company.

As Mac app will be revamped soon, Twitter starts rolling out polls in tweets

Twitter today said that it'll be rolling out the ability to embed custom polls in tweets to all users over the next few days.

Originally tested with a small subset of its user base, polls in tweets will permit everyone to interact with their followers and get the public's opinion on just about anything by embedding customized polls in tweets.

In addition, Twitter's Mac app will be getting a thorough revamp soon with a new dark mode alongside a bunch of new features borrowed from the mobile edition of the software, including in-line Vine and video playback, photos in Direct Messages and in-line replies and much more.

Tweetbot gains 3D Touch Home screen shortcuts, Peek and Pop support in the timeline

Following its launch of the major Tweetbot 4 update, now a universal app for the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad, developer Tapbots today issued a timely update focused on 3D Touch.

If you own an iPhone 6s or iPhone 6s Plus, you can now press Tweetbot's icon on the Home screen firmly to access the following handy shortcuts: Show Activity, Tweet Last Photo and Tweet.

If you have unread notifications sitting in Tweetbot, this menu will provide additional options to reply to a mention or reply via a Direct Message. In addition, Tweetbot now supports Peek and Pop gestures in the timeline.

Twitter launches Moments for discovering trending stories and highlighting the best of Twitter

Twitter's excellent iPhone, iPod touch and iPad mobile application was refreshed this morning with a long-expected feature that strives to make content discovery a lot easier with a brand new tab.

Called Moments, it was designed to highlight stories that are trending on the micro-blogging service right now and important ones you may have missed. This edition of Twitter also supports super-sized emoji in Direct Messages.

Tweetbot 4 launches with iPad and landscape support, Statistics, Activity and more

At long last, Tapbots' widely expected update to Tweetbot, its popular mobile Twitter client, has gracefully landed on the App Store. Twitter 3 for iPhone, which was last updated in July 2015, and Twitter for iPad, an outdated app that saw its last refresh back in June 2014, are no longer available for download in the App Store. Replacing them is Tweetbot 4, a universal app supporting any iPhone, iPod touch and iPad with iOS 9.0 or later.
