Virgin Announces Data Throttling Starting in October, Prepaid iPhone to Blame?

Hold on to your hats, 9to5Mac has submitted another piece of evidence that points to an October release of the next iPhone. This time around, the information also suggests that Apple could be launching a prepaid device this Fall.

Virgin announced yesterday that it is going to be making some plan changes to its Sprint-based prepaid network this fall. Unlimited data plans will go up to $35, and users who cross 2.5GB during their bill cycle will see a significant decrease in speed. When does all of this start taking place?

China Telecom Will Offer iPhone Before Year’s End

China Telecom, a carrier in the world's largest mobile market, plans to offer the iPhone before the end of this year. Rumors are that Apple has been talking behind closed doors with China Telecom execs for months about bringing the iPhone to the Chinese market, and Apple's acting CEO, Tim Cook, was recently spotted at China Mobile HQ.

It's unclear as to when China Telecom will sell the iPhone exactly, but it's expected that we'll see Apple's flagship device on the carrier by at least December...

Judging by the latest round of iDevice rumors, Apple could really be looking to shake things up this Fall. Instead of their typical refresh of the stand-alone iPhone model, many folks are expecting the Cupertino company to unveil two new smartphone devices.

One model is expected to be a feature-packed high-end device, and the other, a supplemental "iPhone Nano" model for the low-end market. We've been hearing the iPhone Nano rumors for quite a while now, and have even started a few of our own.

But even with the mounds of evidence suggesting the device is in the works, it still seems inconceivable that Apple would break its tradition of producing high quality, expensive products. Or does it?

We actually haven't seen too many "leaked photos" of Apple's next smartphone over the last few weeks. We've seen some really cool concepts of what the device might look like, but nothing claiming to be the actual device.

Today, 9to5Mac passes along this photo, of what appears to be the next iPhone, that has been circling the gadget blogs this morning. Though the photo doesn't offer much information regarding the design of the device, the mysterious gadget does seem to be running a version of iOS...

Over the last 6 months, we've been hearing a lot of speculation that Sprint will be the next carrier to offer Apple's popular smartphone. The gossip really kicked up in January when Verizon and Apple announced a partnership.

Sprint's 3G CDMA network is very similar to Verizon's offering, so an iPhone's appearance on the nation's 3rd largest carrier seemed imminent. Since then, we've heard all kinds of rumors suggesting that the iPhone was Sprint-bound. The latest one even pegs it to launch sometime before Christmas...

Expect a Thinner and Lighter iPhone this September

We've already been hearing confirmations that Apple's next iPhone will be released in Q3 of this year, specifically in September. The Wall Street Journal has now joined the fray by reporting that Apple, "has placed orders for key components used in a next-generation iPhone it is preparing to launch sometime in the third quarter, according to people familiar with the situation."

According to The WSJ, the next gen iPhone will sport an 8-megapixel camera, Qualcomm baseband chips, and boast a thinner/lighter design. Nothing was said about the GSM/CDMA world phone rumor, but it's still expected that the iPhone 5 will operate on both carrier basebands.

Apple Orders 15 Million iPhone 5 Handsets For September Shipment

We're now well overdue for a new iPhone announcement, which means we're well into rumor territory, and the latest comes courtesy of long time rumor mongers and general guess-work merchants, DigiTimes.

The latest 'news' to come out of the site claims that Apple has placed an order for a massive 15 million iPhone 5 units from manufacturer, Pegatron.

Not only has Apple ordered the handsets, according to DigiTimes, but the site also claims they will be begin shipping the hardware this coming September...

Next iPhone to Sport an LED Indicator?

I thought a lot about whether I should publish this or not and I came to the conclusion that it was worth throwing out there. Now you have to take what's to come with a grain of salt because it comes from an anonymous tipster that we had never heard of before. After doing a quick check on the IP address of the sender though, I can tell that our tipster is not too far from Cupertino, which I admit is not an indication of trustworthiness.

Our tipster - let's call him Mr T - referred to an article we wrote last week, in which DigiTimes claimed the next iPhone will sport a dual-LED camera flash. According to Mr T, the next iPhone will indeed sport 2 LEDs, except that one will be a LED camera flash, and the other one will be an LED indicator...
