App Review – iBlockHead

iBlockhead is easy to learn and even easier to master word puzzle game you can play against the computer or friend (either using the same device or via Bluetooth).

The name doesn't give away much what it's about but I'll so my best to explain. The game consists of a 5 by 5 spaced board with a 5 letter word, or series of letters running horizontally through the middle. Your task is to select letters in sequence to spell out a word (much like Boggle)...

App Review: Trainyard

Trainyard is a puzzle game created by Matt Rix. One might easily look over Trainyard as another useless game for the iDevices because it doesn’t really feature cute characters and fun animation. With all the apps that are being developed these days, if the screenshot doesn’t look good I usually pass.

But digging a little deeper (albeit with the help of some great iTunes App Store Rankings and thousands of five star reviews!), players will be surprised at the level of depth this puzzle game provides...

App Review: Cut the Rope

Cut The Rope was developed by ZeptoLab and is an ingenious puzzle game which features addictive game play at its best. This concept is simple, strategically cutting ropes (with a swipe of your finger) dangling with candy to feed a green monster named “Om Nom.”

Game play almost seems endless with 100 diverse levels, which are divided into 4 different boxes. Each box contains 25 levels and to progress to other boxes you must collect a specified number of stars to unlock the next box...

App Review – Bowman War

This simple tower defense style game kept me entertained a good few hours. Being the third installment in the Bowman series, the developer knows a thing or two about keeping the player interested.

The object of the game is to get the units from your (left) side of the screen, over and beyond the enemy's right side of the screen, while it tries to do the same to you...

TouchPad – A Seamless Extension of Your Mac on Your iPhone

There are plenty of apps in the App Store for using your iPhone to remotely control your Mac. I've tested plenty of remote apps for the iPhone. Some of them are ok. Some of them are unbearable.

Recently, I stumbled across Edovia Software's TouchPad app. TouchPad is by far the best, all-in-one remote app for the iPhone...

Have a Peek Into Someone Else’s Life with SpyCams

Life's boring? Have a peek into someone else's with SpyCams for iPhone or iPod touch. Search, rate and comment on newly posted or popular security cameras from the comfort of - anywhere, for free.

While the app is simple and easy to use, I found myself looking at the same boring screens. One would have to scroll endlessly to find a gem of an exhibition. A lot of the cams show places like streets, offices, empty lots, hotel cams, city and waterscapes...

Hulu+ App Store Reviews: Fending off the Naysayers

Hulu+ just updated their app last week, so I thought this would be a good time to address the absurd amount of negative reviews they have in the App Store.

I love Hulu+.  I got my invite August 1st and have been using the app on my iPhone 4 several times a week to watch shows — catching up with Glee while at work (shhh!), and watching the first season of Modern Family at the gym (FYI—laughing on the treadmill will immediately provoke stares and glares.)  I think the Hulu service is smart and having it readily accessible on my iPhone 4 is convenient.

So why are there so many negative reviews of it in the App Store (It’s currently at 1.5 stars)?  Most comments seem to be some variation of these complaints:

Xtand iPhone Dock [Review]

Finding the right way to make the iPhone part of the desktop is important for some of us. Enter the Xtand from JustMobile. While there are plenty of mounts and stands for the iPhone, few of them truly capture the aesthetic functionality blend that makes Apple distinct. The Xtand does just that.

It holds the iPhone landscape or portrait at adjustable angles. The aluminum stand looks very similar to the iMac stand. The stand doesn't block any buttons or connections, gripping perfectly at the four corners of the device. The bottom of the stand features a gripping rubber surface to keep it from moving during use...

Review: SGP Skin Guard for iPhone 4

If you’re one of those people that likes a clean feel on your iPhone but still want a sense of protection, there are some attractive options on the screen protector market. I recently installed the SGP Skin Guard for iPhone 4 and was very impressed with the finished result.

Here is my full review of the product...

Website Review: iPhone Ringtones and Wallpapers [Sponsored]

I get many offers from websites to do paid reviews of their services but I rarely (if ever) do it because I usually don't think the site is good enough to share with you. I was recently contacted by the guys over at eSeth.net to do a review of their site. To be honest, they're paying me money for this but that doesn't mean I'm going to be gentle with them.

The site is a mobile community where quality content like themes, wallpapers and ringtones are shared by members around the globe. The site currently has over 500 iPhone 4 wallpapers, and over 1,000 wallpapers for iPhone 3GS. There are also over 2,600 mp3 ringtones. Obviously these numbers are changing everyday as more and more content is added by members...

Apple Loosens All iOS Development Restrictions, Including Flash?

It's an eery feeling when you write an article and on the same day the company you wrote about changes or modifies a policy related to the content of your story. It makes you feel like they're watching you.

We posted a story about the SDK for iOS and how the cloudy restrictive nature of the acceptance process might be hurting the creative flow of the App Store. Less than 2 hours later 9 to 5 Mac posted a statement by Apple regarding the App Store review guidelines...
