Facebook’s Project Spartan to Hit iOS Within the Next Month

Facebook went live with the media this morning from their Palo Alto headquarters to make good on Mark Zuckerberg's promise last week that his company would be making some "awesome" announcements. Though Skype-integrated video chat looks cool, iDB feels that the best has yet to come.

Remember that little Facebook endeavor we told you about a few weeks ago code-named Project Spartan? The HTML5-coded platform is nearing completion and could be available to the masses as early as the end of the month...

New Developer Tool Ports Xbox 360 Games to iOS

ExEn is a brand new set of tools that allows developers to port their titles from XNA (Xbox New Architecture) to Microsoft WP7 and iOS. Essentially it provides an easy way for software companies to move their console games to mobile platforms.

With companies like Electronic Arts snatching up proficient iOS developers like Firemint to better compete in the mobile arena, a set of tools like this could really be a game changer.

This way, developers can design games in a familiar setting, and then easily move the game to mobile platforms...

iCade SDK Now Available to 3rd Party Developers

Here at iDB, we are huge fans of homegrown, iDevice-related products. We've featured all kinds of crazy inventions from an invisible instrument to a remote control helicopter.

Unlike the aforementioned products, the iCADE wasn't a Kickstarter project. In fact, it originally started out on ThinkGeek's website as an April Fool's prank. Well, obviously the iCADE materialized and the $99 accessory just opened up it's doors for 3rd party development...

Remember when Skype finally enabled video calling for the iPhone late last year? The iPhone 4 debuted with FaceTime in the summer and it was nearly 6 months before we saw Skype add video calling to its iOS application.

Fast forward to March of this year, and Apple launched the iPad 2 with a front facing camera and FaceTime support. Since then, everyone has wondered if Skype would port its video calling application to the popular tablet.

Well, we are about at the 6 month mark since Apple released its second tablet, and it just so happens that a mysterious Skype promo video is making its way around the internet...

Fruity Loops (FL) is a popular Windows application for creating and producing music. It's ease of use and generally low cost has made the title a staple for up-and-coming music producers and amateurs alike.

Vacation Mogul by Alawar Entertainment is a time management simulation building game for the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. In the beginning of the game you learn that you must save up money to reclaim a house that your disappeared sister used to own, but is in danger of being taken by your uncle’s greedy lawyer. However because you are short on cash, you have to complete missions and save enough money to buy your sister’s house.

Each mission has goals in which you must build hotels, recreational facilities and achieve a certain weekly cash flow to pass the mission. Example of the goals would be like building 2 hotels with a weekly income of $10,000. These goals slowly become more difficult as you progress through the story, but there is no time limit for missions, so you can go as fast or as slow as you want...
