Orchestra unveils Mailbox, a fresh take on iOS email

Since word got out that Google purchased Sparrow, folks have been clamoring for a new third-party email client for iOS. Sparrow is still available in the App Store, but the team has said that because of the acquisition, it will not be receiving anymore updates.

Enter Mailbox, a next-generation email client that looks like a cross between Sparrow and Clear. The app was unveiled by Orchestra, the company behind the cloud-based to-do app, today and it has a lot of people talking. Keep reading for a video preview...

Google Maps app now available in the App Store

As expected, the official Google Maps app has landed in the App Store this evening. The release comes following a number of rumors, which have been circulating since the summer when it was announced that Apple would be replacing Google Maps in iOS with its own in-house solution.

The app works on the iPhone and iPod touch (no iPad version yet), and includes a number of features such as voice-guided turn-by-turn directions, Google's exclusive Street View, which allows you to look at locations from street level, and public transit directions. More details after the fold...

Surely you must remember Yahoo! Mail? The more than 310 million people who still use it swear it's the best webmail service out there, bar none. If you're a fan of Yahoo's email offering, you'll be delighted to learn that the search firm today released a brand new iOS email client. It's got the basic you'd want from an email app nailed: the clean inbox view with infinite scrolling, auto-complete for email addresses you type, notifications for incoming email messages, multiple message selection, swiping left and right for quick access to options, in-line images, search across folders and more...

Nintendo’s Pokemon Company releases Pokedex app for iOS

Late last year, Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata went on record as saying the Japan-based video game company would not be porting any of its titles to the iOS platform, despite the fact that both users and investors were calling for it. He said doing so would mean "Nintendo would cease to be Nintendo."

Knowing this, it was interesting to see The Pokemon Company, a subsidiary of Nintendo setup to market and license the popular franchise, has just released an official app in Apple's App Store. It's called Pokedex for iOS, and it includes everything you'd want to know about your favorite Pokeman characters...

I'd spent countless hours playing BioWare's Baldur's Gate back when I was a little younger so it goes without saying I'm pretty excited about a re-worked, enhanced edition landing on my favorite tablet. Developer Beamdog did a nice job updating the classic role-playing game with a bunch of new characters, weapons, adventures and maps. Even more content is available via the in-app purchase method.

The game includes the original Baldur’s Gate and the Tales From the Sword Coast expansion pack, in addition to new content like a monk character named Rasaad yn Bashir, a new adventure called The Black Pits and more. Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition can be purchased immediately from the App Store provided you're willing to plunk down ten bucks...

Final Fantasy IV hitting iOS on December 20

Square Enix announced it will be bringing Final Fantasy IV to both iOS and Android. Apple's platform will enjoy a preferential treatment with the Final Fantasy IV release on Thursday, December 20, just days before Christmas. As for the Android build, it's gonna arrive some time in 2013. Final Fantasy IV is a remake of the 2008 Nintendo DS game, with visual improvements and a few nice mini-games, among other perks, which should be enough to keep fans of the franchise glued to their devices...

Here it is folks, the moment you've all been waiting for. Rockstar's Grand Theft Auto: Vice City iOS port is now available in the App Store. That means that the 1980's, and all of its big hair, oversized sunglasses and pastel suits, are now just a tap away.

Rockstar has been leading up to this moment for over a month now, announcing back in October that it would be releasing an iOS version of its popular PS2 GTA title. And from what we've seen, it looks and sounds every bit as good as the original...

Modern Combat 4 launches on iOS this Thursday

Popular mobile games maker Gameloft today confirmed that its war shooter Modern Combat 4 will launch on iOS first this Thursday, December 6, 2012, followed by the Android version "shortly after". You won’t be only playing a U.S. soldier as the game also puts you in the shoes of the villain Edward Page.

When we first saw the reveal trailer, it dawned on us that Gameloft's latest chapter in the blockbuster FPS franchise offers eye-popping mobile graphics that takes full advantage of the power provided by Apple's latest A6 and A6X chips.

The iOS version has been confirmed to support the iPhone 5 and developers tapped the Havok engine, which has been improved on mobile and now features real-time shadows. I've also included two dev diary clips for your viewing pleasure, find them right after the break...
