Bungie co-founder announces ‘Morning Star,’ a new first-person shooter for iOS

Earlier this year, Bungie co-founder and Halo co-creator Alex Seropian teamed up with some ex-DC and Marvel artists to form a new mobile game studio called Industrial Toys. Well the firm just unveiled their top-secret project called Morning Star, a re-imagined first-person shooter for iOS, and it looks incredible…

The above teaser was posted to Industrial Toys’ blog on Monday along with the following note (via MacRumors):

“”We’re pretty fired up over here at Industrial Toys. After putting up a shingle in February, we’ve been building the team, our systems, and our first game. And we’re excited to finally share what we’re working on – a reimagining of the sci-fi shooter for Touch called Morning Star!

…Our totally unreasonable goal is to completely change the expectations core gamers have for their mobile games, and with that comes a bunch of dialogue about what we’re doing and whether it’s gonna work or not…”

The game takes place 120 years in the future, aboard the MSRV-Joplin, a military-outfitted research vessel that’s on its way to explore an odd signal from within the solar system. Things kind of go downhill from there, and the vessel eventually finds itself in a galactic war that could destroy the universe. Pretty basic stuff.

Unfortunately, Morning Star isn’t slated to be released until spring of 2013, but it may just be worth the wait. The fact that ex-Halo and Marvel/DC guys are working on the title is pretty enticing. And if the above teaser is at all indicative of what gameplay is going to be like on the finished game, it’s going to be awesome.
