RecognizeMe Allows for Biometric Facial Recognition on a Jailbroken iPhone

In case you needed one more reason to jailbreak your iPhone, try this on for size: biometric facial recognition. Instead of unlocking your iPhone with a simple password (How boring is that?), you can use the iPhone 4's front-facing camera to scan and recognize your face.

RecognizeMe is a new jailbreak app that helps make your iPhone safe from shady characters and potential homescreen peekers. By matching your face to a pre-defined database, RecognizeMe will unlock your iPhone and give you access to your device.

‘Slide to Unlock’ Before You Enter Your Home, Thanks to This iDoormat

Just in case Apple's products haven't totally permeated your daily life, you can now 'slide to unlock' your feet before you enter your home. The "Fußmatte Slide to unlock" doormat by GetDigital is a doormat specifically designed for the iEverything fanatic.

It's a typical doormat that, you guessed it, features the charming 'slide to unlock' interface you see on your iPhone's lockscreen everyday.

ScreenSaver Gives Your iPhone… Well… You Get the Idea

It's not real hard to figure out what an app called ScreenSaver does. The Cydia application has been making some noise around the web the last few days, so we figured we should mention it on iDB.

For those who don't know, ScreenSaver takes .mov files stored in its Library folder and automatically plays them when the iPhone auto-locks itself. It sounds pretty cool, but does it really work as advertised?

Apple is Testing Gesture-Based LockScreen for iOS

Apple is reportedly testing an Android-like lockscreen for the next major version of iOS. Google's Android OS has a gesture-based "dots" lockscreen that allows users to unlock their phone by highlighting the dots in a pre-established pattern.

Apparently, Apple is borrowing from Android's lockscreen concept and including it in a future version of iOS. There have been complaints that the current iOS lockscreen is not secure enough, and there have been numerous ways of bypassing the iPhone's 4-digit password...

‘Move LockScreen to Unlock’ Makes Unlocking Your iPhone Even Easier

As if something so mundane actually needed to be easier, but yes, strangely enough, Move LockScreen to Unlock does indeed make unlocking your iPhone easier.

It's actually a pretty cool jailbreak tweak, because it makes unlocking your iPhone possible without even looking at the screen; though most of you can likely pull this off anyway.

This can be pretty useful if you're half asleep, and you need to quickly unlock your iPhone for whatever reason. I know, it sounds lazy, but hear me out here...

Mimicking the “Launchpad” With Your iPhone’s Wallpaper

In the recent Steve Jobs keynote, Apple introduced the next major version of Mac OS X. "Lion" boasts many new graphical innovations, and iOS seems to have been sewn into the new interface. One of the most interesting additions to Lion was the "Launchpad."

Launchpad brings the iOS home screen to OS X. In OS X Lion, when you activate your Launchpad, your desktop wallpaper is blurred and given a nice vignette so that you can clearly see your app icons. The effect is very pretty. And, fortunately, it's fairly simple to duplicate this visual effect with your iPhone's locks screen and home screen...

LockInfo: iOS LockScreen and Notification Panel

One of the pitfalls of Apple iOS is the lack of a good notification system. By notification system, I mean a panel where one can view all their notifications in a consolidated panel, much like the notification panel of Android OS.

Instead, we have a system that, with every pushed notification, you get a popup alert, a sound and a badge on the application icon which presents itself as a useless system once you dismiss the popup alert. Once the popup is gone, the risk of forgetting the notification opens up.

LockInfo, by David Ashman, picks up where Apple slacks by providing us with a very useful notification panel that can be set as your lockscreen, your first Springboard page and/or a panel activated by Activator (known as InfoShade). The latter provides Android-like functionality with a panel available from any screen, whether from within an open app or not...

Coolest iPhone Lockscreen Ever Just Got Even Cooler

Back in August, Sebastien posted about Typophone 4, a really awesome iPhone lockscreen for jailbroken iPhones, and I've been using it ever since.

Now there's a modified version created by a fan that includes weather info at the bottom, complete with hi-res images and forecasts. You can choose what cities you want to be able to select from, and you can toggle to view current conditions, today's forecast, and tomorrow's forecast. The data is pulled from Yahoo! weather.

The app comes with only 3 pre-set cities, and it's a little tricky to change to your own, as it requires using a SSH client. So here's a walkthrough:

This Tweak Makes Your iPhone Look Like an Aquarium

A few months ago we showed you how to turn your iPhone lockscreen into an aquarium. Turns out this tweak wasn't free and was very buggy. The good news is that we now have another option. It's called MultiFishLockScreen.

MultiFishLockScreen is a free tweak available for free on Cydia. This theme was especially developed to animate the lockscreen with a nice submarine view...

GreenPois0n Lockscreen Makes Waiting for iPhone 4.1 Jailbreak (un)Bearable

I need it.  You need it.  We all need the 4.1 GreenPois0n jailbreak!  To help us wait out these final days, a guy who appropriately goes by the name of “Sadist” has a GreenPois0n battery, lockscreen and slider theme available in Cydia.

Except after installing it I realized it just makes me more impatient for the new jailbreak, especially when the slider taunts “Inject the Pois0n.”  So he’s not just a sadist, he’s a tease...

Disable Your iPhone Lockscreen “Intelligently” With NoLockScreen

Pfft, lock screens, who needs ‘em anyway? With this latest tweak from Tom Zickel, you can say sayonara to that annoying lock screen for good. Of course for those of you who use your lock screen for various widgets for e-mail, weather, and the like, this may not be for you.

But for those who want to get right down to the action without delay, NoLockScreen fulfills its promises, but not without some caveats...

A Very Nice iPhone Lockscreen

You might remember my post about TypoPhone 4 last month, which I think is a very nice iPhone lockscreen. Turns out a developer has decided to improve it by adding some colors and tweaking the layout a little bit. This new lockscreen theme is called Slanted Lock and is available in Cydia under the ModMyI repo.

The result is very nice and quite colorful. It displays the weather of your selected location, and the background changes with the weather. Very neat!
