Make calls instantly from the Messages app with RaiseToCall

I don't really make phone calls anymore these days. But when I do, they almost always originate from the Messages app. You know the drill—you tap the Status bar to scroll to the top of the conversation, and hit the 'Call' button.

While most folks, including myself, don't find this two-step process at all troublesome, the jailbreak community seems to always be asking the question "how can I do this quicker?" And the answer to that question today, is RaiseToCall...

How to enable face detection while recording video

Face detection is a feature that allows the iPhone's iSight camera to focus on the most prominent face in the frame, balancing the camera's exposure across up to 10 faces. It's a feature that works well with the iPhone's still camera, and it also works for shooting video.

The only problem with video, is that the face detection only works prior to the actual filming. That means that you can detect faces before tapping the shutter button while in video mode, but not afterwards. FaceDetectionDuringVideo is a tweak that eliminates that restriction. In other words, it allows you to detect faces in the middle of shooting a video.

How to add a stopwatch to the iPhone’s Lock screen

Isn't it annoying when your iPhone goes to the Lock screen while using its built-in stopwatch? Perhaps that's never happened to you before, because you simply don't use the stopwatch. But if it has happened, you'll be ecstatic to learn about a brand new jailbreak tweak that solves this issue.

Stoppur — a jailbreak tweak that allows you to place a stopwatch right on the Lock screen — is available on Cydia's BigBoss repo for $0.99. Is it worth it for stopwatch users? Take a look inside for more insight.

Saurik: 18M devices running iOS 6 visited Cydia during evasi0n’s 6 week run

Yesterday, we bid farewell to one of the most infamous jailbreaks of all time: evasi0n. Born on February 4, it lasted nearly 6 weeks before Apple finally disabled it by way of the iOS 6.1.3 software update it issued yesterday.

It certainly served its purpose though. According to Jay Freeman, aka Saurik, Cydia saw more than 18 million unique iPhones, iPads and iPod touches, running iOS 6 (or later), visit during the jailbreak's 6-week long run...

Let’s Talk Jailbreak – 02: Pacifiers are evil

Welcome to episode 2 of Let's Talk Jailbreak. In this episode, Jeff and I sit down and talk about the reasons why we and other people jailbreak, battery life, some of our favorite jailbreak tweaks, and we also review this week's tweaks that were released in Cydia.

This new episode takes into account some of the feedback you guys gave us last week. Most noticeably, I worked on improving the sound quality on my end. Turns out my mic settings were all jacked up, but after some serious tweaking and sound recording tests, I think I finally hit the sweet spot. It's not perfect yet, but it's better. We're working on making it perfect, so hang tight...

iOS 6.1.3 kills evasi0n jailbreak

It was fun while it lasted, but it appears that Apple has finally put an end to evasi0n. Earlier today, the company released iOS 6.1.3 to the masses, and as expected, it contains patches for multiple exploits used in the popular iOS 6.x jailbreak.

MuscleNerd confirmed our fears on Twitter just a few moments ago, pointing out that Apple has credited the evad3rs with the discovery of 4 of the 6 security flaws that were patched in today's update. So jailbreakers should stay far away...

BatteryDoctorPro: power management, NC settings toggles, app switcher and more

Every once in a while, a good jailbreak app or tweak sneaks past our radar. We feel we do a pretty good job of covering most new notable Cydia packages, but every now and then, one slips through the cracks. And that's exactly what's happened with BatteryDoctorPro.

For those who aren't familiar with it, BatteryDoctorPro is a jailbreak app that monitors your iPhone or iPod touch usage to essentially lengthen your battery life. But it also has Notification Center settings toggles, a multitasking bar and several other handy features...

Apple TV software updated to kill evasi0n jailbreak

In addition to this morning's release of iOS 6.1.3, Apple has also seeded a new version of its Apple TV software. The update brings the firmware to version 5.2.1, and it includes a number of bug fixes as well as support for the new Hulu Plus app.

Unfortunately, as with iOS 6.1.3, the bug fixes are actually patches for the exploits used in the latest evasi0n jailbreak. So if your Apple TV is jailbroken, or you would like it to be in the future, you'll want to be sure to stay away from this update...

‘Tap to Widgets’ brings shortcuts for Notes, Reminders, and Calendar to Notification Center

Tap to Widgets is a jailbreak tweak, which brings Reminders, Notes, and Calendar shortcuts to iOS' Notification Center. Tap to Widgets allows you to easily add an item to any of these apps without having to fully open the app in question.

The tweak even lends the ability to add items to specific accounts, such as a different Calendar, or Reminders List. This is a beautifully designed tweak that functions just as you might imagine it might if Apple were behind it. Take a look inside as we walk you through each aspect of Tap to Widgets in our hands-on video.

Reddit survey tries to identify the ‘average jailbreaker’

In my 4 or 5 years of hanging out in the jailbreak community, I've met people from all walks of life. Both men and women jailbreak, ranging in ages from 6-60, and they come from all around the world. I can't imagine trying to determine the 'average jailbreaker.'

But that's exactly what Reddit user spiceman54j was hoping to accomplish this weekend when he surveyed Redditors from the r/jailbreak forum. In total, he collected data from nearly 400 jailbreakers, and he's created an infographic to showcase his findings...

Check inside for more screenshots, which showcase this handy tweak for heavy users of Pandora.

BadgerTweak: an upcoming tweak for quickly viewing notifications

Wouldn't it be cool if you could tap an app badge and be given a synopsis of the app's awaiting notifications? That's the premise behind BadgerTweak, an upcoming endeavor that allows "...users to view notifications by tapping the app's notification badge on the SpringBoard."

According to the tweak's official Twitter account, it's coming soon to Cydia, and will work with more than just the Messages app. Although the tweak is still in development, the team behind it has apparently made a few strides in the developmental process as of late.
