Add Custom Boot Sounds to Your iPhone With ‘iStartupSound’

Let's face it, the iPhone's lack of boot jingles is a bit on the boring side. Every phone that I can ever remember has had some sort of nifty boot jingle, but the iPhone? Nada.

That's about to change with the advent of the upcoming iStartupSound, which will be a free jailbreak tweak available soon on the ModMyi Repo.

Want to hear it in action? Check inside for the audible goodness...

BiteSMS Update for JailbreakMe 3.0 Compatibility

The biteSMS team has pushed out a compatibility update for JailbreakMe 3.0.

Just over a week ago, we discovered that Cydia's popular text messaging tweak, biteSMS, was conflicting with Comex's latest jailbreak, JailbreakMe 3.0.

BiteSMS' quick reply functionality would send users device's into an infinite boot loop. This was quickly confirmed with multiple sources, predominantly the biteSMS support forum, JailbreakQA, and of course our readers here at iDB.

iUsers Jailbreak Tweak Brings Multiple User Accounts to the iPad

When Apple first announced the iPad way back before we knew the joys that a 9.7" slab of glass could bring, we all immediately thought that the tablet would be a great coffee table device - perfect for leaving out and offering as a family machine.

The problem with that notion, though, is that the iPad is more of a personal device than Apple likes to let on.

Just like our iPhones, the iPad is designed to be used the way one member of the family likes it - their wallpaper, their settings, their apps. This approach really limits the way we can use our iPads, and plays right into Apple's hands when it comes to sales - two and three iPads sold per household instead of just one.

If only we had iOS user accounts, just as we do on our Macs...

We've got another TweakWeek entry for you. This one comes from Andrea Oliva and might just be a godsend for folks who enjoy a good impromptu sing-along.

Jailbreak App iMAME4All Adds iCade Support

Remember when we told you about the iCade? The retro iPad accessory lets you play select iOS games via a set of arcade-style controls, and its SDK just became available for 3rd party development. It looks like the jailbreak community struck first.

Engadget is reporting that the popular Cydia app known as iMAME4All was just updated to support the new tablet accessory. iMAME4All is an emulator that plays hundreds of retro titles, so needless to say it would be an awesome fit for the iCade...

How to Bypass Time Warner Cable App Restriction on Jailbroken iPads

Last week we told you about how Time Warner Cable was restricting owners of jailbroken iPads to use their application. If you launch their app on a jailbroken iPad, you will get a message informing you that "TWCable TV is not supported on jailbroken devices."

At the time, I speculated that this measure was to prevent non TWC subscriber to use the application, and I still believe this is the reason behind the block. As usual, the jailbreak community was quick to react and a .deb file was made available on the same day, allowing jailbroken iPads to use the app anyway...

‘BookmarksBarEnhancer’ Adds a New Context Menu to Your iPad’s Bookmarks Bar

The bookmarks bar is a handy little feature found in the iPad version of mobile Safari, but it's even more useful with this jailbreak tweak.

BookmarksBarEnhancer adds a nifty context menu to the items in your bookmarks bar. This menu can be easily invoked by tapping and holding on your bookmark of choice.

Once invoked, you'll be presented with the option to open, open in new window, or copy your favorite items. This is helpful for those times when you want to open a bookmark, but don't want to lose your current page. Check out the full video walkthrough inside...

‘RemovedSound’ Brings the Familiar OS X Paper Crumbling Sound to the iPhone

I’ve always wondered why Apple never added the “paper crumbling” trash sound whenever you deleted an app in iOS.

Perhaps they figured that we’d be deleting things more than we do on our desktops, and that it would become annoying after a while.

Regardless of the reasoning, if you've been wanting something like this, then want no longer; RemovedSound -- one of the latest jailbreak TweakWeek tweaks -- has hit the Cydia store…

‘SBVolume’ is Great For Those With Broken Volume Buttons

I admit it; I couldn't come up with any valid reasons for SBVolume’s existence during the shooting of my video walkthough, but as always, you commentors picked up on the transgression.

SBVolume is a TweakWeek tweak that places soft volume buttons on your iPhone’s Home screen. It’s definitely not the prettiest implementation in the world, but it would be a welcome addition to anyone’s Home screen that has broken physical volume buttons.

I overlooked that need during the shooting of the video, hence the over-the-top negativity. But still, I stand by my notion that it could look a whole lot better than it does now. Details inside…
