Jailbreak Apps & Tweaks

These are the latest jailbreak apps and tweaks available for your iPhone or iPad. We save you time by highlighting only the best tweaks.

Quickly clear your Messages text field with Triple Tap To Clear

Inputting text on the iPhone can be a tedious task. It's not so much the typing. But due to limited display space, editing can be irksome. It seems like doing things such as copying or deleting text are more complicated than they need to be.

Case in point, try typing a lengthy message in your Messages app. Now delete the whole thing. As it stands, the fastest way to do this is to tap on your text, 'Select All' and then delete it. But as with most things in iOS, it could always be faster....

Customize the look of your Home screen icons with Athena

Folks who enjoy customizing their iOS devices, but hate overweight theming apps like WinterBoard, might want to check out Athena. The new jailbreak tweak, developed by SuperDev, allows you to completely change the look of your Home screen icons.

Want dark icons? No problem. Want pink icons? No problem. Athena has a wide array of settings that enable you to change nearly everything about the color attributes of your app icons, providing you with seemingly endless customization options...

How to open your folders Velox style

If you've been using Velox for any length of time, then chances are you've ran into the following issue: You try to perform a swipe gesture on a folder and nothing happens. Don't worry, you're not alone. Plenty of us have futilely tried the same thing, including developer Max Katzmann.

For that reason, Katzmann has developed a new jailbreak tweak called FolderSwipe. This is a tweak that allows you to perform the swipe gestures popularized by Velox on the folders residing on your device's Home screen.

Affix brings an OS X inspired shortcut to Notification Center

I always love it when I see a new tweak by rvirajm. You know that you probably won't be getting some blockbuster tweak like Auxo, or Velox, but what you will get is a well thought out tweak that makes the iPhone a better device to use. Affix is the latest such example of this trend. It's a tweak that places a handy shortcut to the Notification settings page at the bottom of Notification Center.

If you're an OS X user, then you'll no doubt recognize the inspiration behind this tweak. Take a look inside for a few more details.

MiniPlayer 2.1 is a beautiful update to a great jailbreak tweak

You know how they say some things get better over time? Wine falls squarely into that category. MiniPlayer does too. The upcoming 2.1 version, which is being submitted to Cydia's BigBoss repo today, is a more refined experience than its predecessors.

The first version of MiniPlayer had potential, but left a lot to be desired in the avenue of designed. Now that Surenix has stepped on board with the project to help out with its design, the tweak has come into its own.

Music controls have always been a part of a crowded market in Cydia, so it takes a lot to make any particular tweak stand out in this space. I'm happy to report that not only does MiniPlayer stand out with its latest 2.1 update, it shines. Check out our full video walkthrough of the latest version of MiniPlayer right after the break.

Compass for Velox places the stock Compass app in an enhanced folder

The inevitable deluge of Velox compatible add-ons has began, and it shows no sign of slowing down anytime soon. Compass for Velox is the latest such jailbreak add-on to benefit from Velox's recent release on Cydia.

As you would expect, Compass for Velox adds enhanced folder capability to the stock Compass app. If you've found yourself in an unfamiliar area, you can rest easy knowing that the iPhone's Compass is a mere finger swipe away.

Addial for Velox lets you add new contacts from the Home screen

When you have the popular new Velox tweak installed, it opens up a bunch of new interactions with many of the stock iPhone apps. As we highlighted in our initial walkthrough with the tweak, the stock Contacts app benefits by allowing you to access your contact information using a swipe gesture on the app's icon.

That functionality, while different, was admittedly a little boring. That's where this new add-on — Addial for Velox — steps in to spice things up a bit. This is an interesting add-on, because it combines the functionality of two tweaks into one — the aforementioned Velox, and another tweak that we reviewed in the past called Addial. Take a look inside for more information.

How to hide the status bar on the Lock screen

I rarely take the time to customize my iPhone with beautiful looking wallpaper, therefore, I don't really mind the fact that many of the Lock screen elements hide much of the wallpaper from view. If you're someone who's really finicky about seeing more of your Lock screen wallpaper, then this new tweak has your name written on it.

LockStatusHide is a new jailbreak tweak that allows you to hide the presence of the status bar while on the iPhone's Lock screen. In my opinion, it's not a tweak that works well by itself, but when combined with a tweak like Lockscreen Clock Hide, it can do wonders for your wallpaper.

MiniPlayer 2.0 is out with a new look courtesy of Surenix

Earlier this week, we told you about a new jailbreak tweak called MiniPlayer. It's essentially a hidable widget for your device's music controls, which was based on a concept from Auxo-designer Sentry, and looks a lot like the iTunes 11 mini player.

The initial release saw mixed reviews, but if you weren't a believer before you need to checkout today's update. MiniPlayer 2.0 just hit Cydia, and thanks to a complete UI overhaul by Ayecon theme designer Surenix, it looks and feels much better...

How to search Google using Velox

As we discussed on yesterday's episode of Let's Talk Jailbreak, Velox is great, not so much because of what it does right now, but because of the many possibilities it opens up for future add-ons. Now the add-ons have begun to flow into Cydia, and one in particular allows you to search Google without necessitating the launch of the Google app.

Check out our overview of Google Search for Velox inside.

‘Secretary’ reads you your messages and missed notifications

Looking for a new way to sort through notifications on your iPhone? If so, you might want to check out Secretary, a new jailbreak tweak that will read your notifications aloud to you upon connecting your device to a Bluetooth speaker or headset.

Once activated, the tweak can tell you how many unchecked missed phone calls and messages you have, as well as the number of impending calendar events. It can also read your text messages aloud to you using text-to-speech, similar to Siri...

Let’s Talk Jailbreak 09: Debating over prices

Sebastien and Jeff discuss the debate over the prices of apps and tweaks in Cydia. They also chit-chat in depth about Velox, one of the year's most highly anticipated jailbreak tweaks. Also, don't miss our coverage of this week's tweaks, which include Luna, FullScroll, and more. Oh, and have you ever wanted to know what could happen when you play your Piano Passcode out in public? We've got the answer.
