iOS 5’s Voice-to-Text Feature Finally Revealed

In the weeks building up to this year's WWDC, there was a lot of speculation that Apple and Nuance were planning a major partnership to bring system-wide voice-to-text to iOS 5. The 2 companies were expected to make a big announcement at the Summer event.

But the developer's conference came and went with no mention of the new feature. Then we started to see code trickle in. Found deep inside Apple's new firmware, the evidence suggested that the company was still working on bringing voice-to-text to its customers this Fall.

EA’s ‘Back to School’ Sale Offers up to 80% Off

It's back to school time I'm afraid, but there is one every so slight plus to this time of year, and that's sales. We all like sales, don't we?

The guys over at Electronic Arts certainly do, and their EA 'Back to School' sale is underway, with games receiving up to 80% reductions in price.

China Mobile and Apple Reportedly Ink Deal for iPhone 4 Launch this Fall

China Mobile is the world's largest wireless carrier with 600+ million subscribers, and it doesn't have the iPhone yet. While we've heard a lot of speculation that Apple will soon be joining forces with the provider, we haven't really known when to expect a done deal.

We recently heard rumors that the two companies had agreed on a TD-LTE smartphone, but that's not likely until sometime next year. So will Apple tap China Mobile's enormous customer base before then? RBC Capital Markets' Mike Abramsky seems to think so...

KillBackground: Kill All Running Apps from Your Multitasking Bar

Although Apple took a couple of years to implement system-wide multitasking in iOS, it seems to do the trick. It's easy to access the multitasking bar from any application, and for the most part, apps running in the background don't slow you up.

Note that I said for the most part. It seems like once you have 10 or more apps running, your iPhone starts to feel a bit sluggish. And to close them all one by one can be a tedious task. So why not download a jailbreak utility that'll do it for you in one step?

Verizon Follows AT&T’s Lead and Starts Blocking Unofficial Tethering

A couple days ago, we reported that AT&T would automatically start moving jailbreakers using MyWi to an official tethering plan starting August 11.

It now seems that Verizon is following the same path, as it has started directing users who use unofficial tethering to this page, a kind warning that those users might want to get legit and start paying for the service...

Inductive charging is all the rage these days. Palm was the first mobile manufacturer to bring 'magic' charging to the mainstream with its Palm Pre and Touchstone accessory.

Since then, iPhone case manufacturers have jumped to bring the same kind of functionality to Apple's smartphone, allowing the handset to be charged by placing it on a mat of sorts. No plugs, no connectors. Magic.

According to a new Apple patent discovered by Patently Apple, the Cupertino outfit may be planning to bring inductive charging to the iPhone in a more practical way, while adding the typical Apple flair to proceedings...
