Apple Details Smart iDevice Diagnostic Tool in Patent

It's Apple patent time again here at iDownloadbBlog, and the latest to be discovered by Patently Apple points to a fancy new iTunes based diagnostic tool for iOS devices.

The new tool will create and monitor in-depth change logs, as well as check things like the device's location and other physical conditions. The idea is that the logs show what a device was doing and where it was doing it at definable points in time. The patent mentions the logs could be generated at every restart, every day, or every time a particular action is performed...

iOS 5 Beta 7 Proves iTunes Match Really Isn’t a Streaming Service

Soon after the iTunes Match beta went live earlier this week, reports started flooding in that the service did indeed support the streaming of music, a feature that wasn't advertised by Apple during the iCloud announcement. Many were originally disappointed that streaming was not included in iTunes Match, so the news that it was actually there was met with glee and happiness all around.

What people had discovered was that if you tapped on a song stored in iCloud, it started playing. If you started a new one and then went back after turning on Airplane Mode, the original song hadn't cached, which led people to believe it was streaming. But after Apple denied that streaming was included in iCloud, more questions starting being asked...

Sprint Raises Early Termination Fee to $350, iPhone Incoming?

Sprint has increased its early termination fee from $200 to $350, bringing it in line with both AT&T and Verizon. The new fee only applies to 'advanced devices' which, we assume, means smartphones and tablets.

According to an article on CNET, the fee will be prorated for now, depending on how long you have left on your current contract, which kind of makes sense. And that's the reason we're surprised Sprint is making this move...

Icon in Photo Stream Beta Indicates Completely Redesigned iPhone 5

If you've been around the Apple community for a while, you're likely aware of the company's habit of seeding beta version of upcoming software to developers. They do this so app makers can test their software, and it's also a nice way to help iron out the kinks.

But lucky for us, it's also a way for us to get an inside look at Apple's future plans. We've been able to spot unannounced Nuance and Siri features from within the betas, and now we may have just gotten a glimpse of what the iPhone 5 will look like...

Jailbreak Dynamic Duo: PasswordPilot and StayOpened

Two is always better than one, right? Well, in the case of PasswordPilot and StayOpened, two is indeed, most definitely better than one.

StayOpened is the Robin to PasswordPilot's Batman. Their mission? To make App Store purchases easier!

Fan Favorite Dolphin Browser on Android Arrives in the App Store

Arguably the best web browser available for the Android platform, Dolphin, is now also strutting its stuff on iOS. Dolphin's claim to fame is its deep gesture integration, which reduces the need for quite so many on-screen buttons. Perfect for smartphones with smaller screens, just like the iPhone.

Offering its wares for free, Dolphin joins a long list of web browsers in the App Store which aim to take a piece of the browsing pie from the stock Safari software, but it may need to offer something unique if it's going to make people switch...

LaunchConfirm: Stop Accidentally Launching Apps

It's no secret that many of the tweaks found on Cydia are close replicas of already existing tweaks; LaunchConfirm is no exception.

Heavily borrowing from another recently released jailbreak tweak by the name of DoubleTapToOpen, LaunchConfirm aims to accomplish similar results, albeit using a slightly different method.

Both tweaks aim to prevent the end user from accidentally launching apps. DoubleTapToOpen requires a double tap to launch apps, while LaunchConfirm adopts a confirmation dialogue box in order to do so.

In the end, both tweaks are very similar, as you'll see in this full video walkthrough...

Jailbreak iOS 5 Beta 6 and iOS 4.3.5 With RedSn0w

The latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.8b was recently released by the Dev Team, and it includes two key components.

The first component, is compatibility with the iPad 1 iOS 5 beta 6 IPSW. Apparently, Apple updated this IPSW without altering its version or filename, so this latest version of RedSn0w features compatibility with both the original and updated files...

Sprint Schedules October 7th Event, Related to iPhone Announcement?

It seems a day can't go by without a new iPhone 5 rumor, and today has had its fair share already. The latest rumor to throw on the metaphorical fire revolves around US cell phone carrier Sprint and an event it plans to hold in October.

The event, which will take place on October 7th, is being called a 'strategy update' by the execs at Sprint. It's supposedly aimed at giving the team a chance to speak to the press, as well as a question and answer session. But is that all? Maybe. Maybe not...

iPhone Smart Cover Concept Video [Updated]

So I was messing around with Ryan Petrich's VoiceKeys tweak a while ago, and stumbled upon a revelation: The tweak's proximity sensor feature, coupled with my BookBook case makes for an almost iPad 2 imitating Smart Cover feature for the iPhone.

In a nutshell, I decided it would only be right to record the functionality that I inadvertently stumbled upon, with the hopes of coercing someone in the jailbreak community to take this project head on.

What we need, is jailbreak tweak that allows one to activate the proximity sensor anywhere, in any app, not just in the Phone app (or in this case, the Messages app). Check inside for a video demonstration of the iPhone Smart Cover concept in action, along with a call to arms to any jailbreak developer who wishes to take this project on...
