Why I’m a Fan of Technology, Not Just Apple

This year's CES seems to have raised an interesting question, and it's one that I've pondered myself on occasion. It's an issue that often comes around whenever there is a trade show that Apple does not attend, so that's basically all of them these days.

Take the recent CES as an example. Apple has not attended, and that has led many Apple blogs and fans to take a dim view upon anything and everything that has taken place. What it boils down to is this: if Apple doesn't do it, it must be rubbish. Pointless, even. Why would anyone be even remotely interested?

So the question is this: why do some people seem to be such diehard Apple fans, or even that awful term "fanboys," that they just cannot seem to appreciate anything that comes out of a company that doesn't have a half-eaten fruit on its masthead...

Corona Exploit Reportedly Patched in iOS 5.1

After months of waiting, an untethered jailbreak compatible with iOS 5 was finally released in late December. Although it doesn't work with A5 devices, the exploit is effective on a number of products, including both the iPad and the iPhone 4.

But it doesn't look like it will be that way for much longer. Multiple jailbreak developers are reporting that Apple has patched the Corona exploit, used in the untethered jailbreak, in the latest version of its mobile operating system iOS 5.1...

Verizon’s LTE Requirement Still a Ways Off

Yesterday, we passed on a report from CNET that claimed that Verizon would soon be enforcing a "hard requirement" that all future smartphones be LTE-compatible. The news made some sense considering the carrier has been leading the LTE movement.

But today, the Mac Observer is reporting that they've heard a different story. While Verizon might eventually start requiring manufacturers to incorporate LTE chips into their products, it doesn't look like it'll be happening anytime soon...

Apple Joins the Fair Labor Association

Stories of Foxconn employees choosing suicide over bleak working conditions have painted a horrific picture of overseas supply chain factories. The companies that assemble our iPhones and other devices just don't treat their workers properly.

But it looks like Tim Cook and the rest of Apple are looking to change that. The Business Journal is reporting that Apple has joined the Fair Labor Association (FLA) as a participating company — the first technology company to do so...

Grooveshark Back on the iPhone With HTML5 Web App

Popular music service Grooveshark has made its way back to the iPhone, thanks to the company's new HTML web app. Grooveshark fans will be happy to hear that you can now access the free service on iOS devices without the jailbreak app.

Apple originally pulled Grooveshark from the App Store because of its questionably-illegal nature, and then app then showed up in Cydia for jailbreakers. Grooveshark has now abandoned Flash for a mobile-friendly HTML5 web app that all iOS users can enjoy.

Rumor: iPhone 5 Will Be Thinner With 3G/LTE Compatibility Across All Networks

The latest in analyst predictions comes from Morgan Stanley's Katy Huberty. According to Huberty, the next-generation iPhone will be slimmer and sport a quad-core Qualcomm chip with 3G and LTE compatibility across all networks.

We've heard plenty of rumors regarding the mythical iPhone 5, and this particular analyst claims that Apple will have its upcoming handset ready for customers in the third quarter of this year.

Easily Pair Your iPhone With Your Mac’s Keyboard

If you are the kind of person who likes to use a real keyboard with your iPhone or iPod touch every once in a while, you'll probably be acutely aware just how much of a pain it can be to have to manually pair your device with the keyboard every time you use it.

Obviously, that situation only crops up if you use your keyboard with a computer as well. But what if you could just plug your iPhone in and have it connect with one keystroke. No pairing, no messing.

A new keyboard from Matias offers just that...

iPhone SJ Concept In Action [Video]

Last week we told you about designer Antonio De Rosa's next-generation iPhone concept/tribute to Steve Jobs. The iPhone SJ looks like something Jony Ive could have cooked up himself in the basements of Cupertino, and now there's a video of the concept for our viewing enjoyment.

Verizon to Require LTE-Compatibility in All Future Smartphones

If there's one thing Apple's mobile products have taken a lot of criticism for recently, it's their lack of LTE support. The company released a new tablet and handset last year — neither of which contained the popular 4G technology.

While nearly every Android partner has implemented LTE into their products, Apple has continued to ignore the tech in favor of battery life and reliability. But they may not have a choice in the matter in future Verizon-bound products...

Mole Kart is a Mario Kart Clone That Won’t Last Long in the App Store

Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear. We love Mario Kart as much as anyone, we grew up with it in various incarnations across all manner of devices, which is why this is even more maddening.

Mole Kart, available for download from Apple's App Store right now, is what can best be described as a Mario Kart clone. That is, it's basically Mario Kart, but without the buttery smooth animations and Nintendo charm. We are not talking about Mole Kart being similar in that it's karts racing around a track, either. Mole Kart is so similar to Mario Kart that if you have played the Wii version of the game then you'll already know the tracks involved in this iOS clone.

It's that much of a rip-off...

Today the long awaited iPhone 4S was supposed to go on sale in China. A lot of people crowded Apple Stores hoping to get an iPhone.

M.I.C. Gadget is reporting that a huge fight broke out between scalpers, shutting down the Apple Store in Beijing. It even got to a point where it was so bad that Beijing SWAT team had to be called in to help control the angry scalpers and customers.

Long Lines Form Around China for iPhone 4S Launch

While some of us have had the iPhone 4S for nearly three months, folks in China are just now seeing the handset in the flesh. And if you thought the hype for Apple's new smartphone was starting to die out, you're very much mistaken.

Several news outlets are reporting today on the massive lines that have formed outside of Apple Stores in both Beijing and Shanghai, China, for the iPhone 4S launch. Apple's latest handset is expected to go on sale in less than one hour.
