There are several home automation solutions on the market right now that work with your iPhone. In conjunction with web-based control servers, you can use the handset to operate anything from your lights to your thermostat.

But price and complexity has always kept the technology out of the reach of the average consumer. So ZMote decided to come up with an easy to use, affordable solution. Introducing the Bluetooth Smart Cord....

How to Access Gmail Securely With a QR Code [Video]

Normally I wouldn't dare log into my Gmail account from a public terminal, but this QR based login from Google is definitely a step in the right direction from a security standpoint.

As first reported by Ian Paul from PC World, you can now securely log into your Gmail account without typing your username or password into a computer.

It works by using your iPhone as the means for authentication instead, and it's a pretty slick way of staying relatively secure from would be password jackers. Video demonstration inside.

Flipboard Launches New ‘iPhoneography’ Section Inside of Their iPhone App

Popular iPad app Flipboard just launched on the iPhone a few months ago, allowing users to flip through articles easier on a smaller screen. Today, Flipboard has introduced a new section to their iPhone app called 'iPhoneography'. The iPhoneography section allows users to view beautiful images taken with an iPhone, aggregated by Flipboard.

As more and more people begin to move away from taking photographs with a digital camera and do it with their iPhone instead, this seems like a great addition by the Flipboard team. Flipboard uses sources like the most popular Instagram photos and other blogs for content...

Introducing Nissan’s New Self-Repairing iPhone Case

Most of us hear the name "Nissan," and think automobiles. The Japanese car company is responsible for some of the world's most recognizable vehicles, including the Skyline and the popular 350Z.

But Nissan recently announced that it has plans for a new product that has nothing to do with cars. The company is launching a new line of self-healing, scratch-proof iPhone cases...

The Next iPhone Could be Waterproof

A week ago we told you about a company named Liquipel. As the name suggests, the company's work involves an invisible, liquid-repelling coating that can make your iPhone and other gadgets completely waterproof.

But apparently, they're not the only ones with the technology. A little Utah-based startup named HZO has a similar waterproof coating it's working on called Waterblock. And word on the street is, Apple is interested...

This concept video shows an iPhone 5 sporting not one, but two home buttons, right on the sides of the screen. I fail to see how practical this would be, especially when holding your iPhone in just one hand.

iOS Battery Update: iOS 5.1 Beta 3

A week after the release of iOS 5.1 beta 3 the biggest question that seems to be getting asked repeatedly is one that we have become accustomed to ever since the release of iOS 5, back in October. Yes, you guessed it – is the battery life any better yet?

We have been talking about battery life in iOS quite a bit since the issue first reared its ugly head, and we've discovered that it isn't just an iPhone 4S issue, but rather something Apple changed in iOS 5. Since then the company has issued a full update in iOS 5.0.1 and a series of iOS 5.1 betas, but has the latest improved things any? Can we expect to get back to iOS 4.x-levels of battery life?

Well, no, not really...

Do Unread Notification Numbers on Your iPhone Drive You Insane?

Our iPhones are constantly demanding our attention with little bings, bongs and flashy lights. Apple's addition of Notification Center in iOS 5 has only heightened the need to keep your iPhone's notifications in check, but just how much so?

I sit here now, looking at an iPhone homescreen with no less than ten, yes ten different little red bubbles telling me there is something I need to do. Something that apparently needs my attention before the world falls into some kind of disorganized chaos that can only result in it falling off its axis.

Or something like that...

Hot off the heels of the Corona iBooks fix, MuscleNerd tweeted that RedSn0w has been updated to 0.9.10b4 to incorporate the fix for Apple's mobile book app.

The good news for current RedSn0w users is that all you have to do is rerun the new version over your existing jailbreak in order to receive the fix.

This is a Jailbroken iPhone 4S

A few days ago we told you that pod2g and his fellow hackers were getting close to completing an untethered jailbreak for A5 devices. This includes both the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4S.

While we still don't have an exact release date, pod2g did give us something to wet our appetites. The hacker has just posted a video to his blog of an untethered jailbreak running on Apple's latest handset...

Apple to Start Using Halogen-Free USB Cables

Apple's been on a roll over the last few days, releasing a detailed supplier list for the first time, and joining the Fair Labor Association. But the company's not just stopping with improving the working conditions of its supply chain.

It's also working on improving its environmental footprint. The London Evening Standard is reporting that Apple has asked Volex, the manufacturer that makes all of its USB and power cables, to switch to halogen-free materials...

Singapore Carriers to Offer iPhone 4S Models Without Cameras

This is kind of interesting. The JakartaGlobe is reporting that three of Apple's Singapore-based carrier partners are planning to offer camera-less iPhone 4S models to their subscribers in the near future.

While this removes one of the handset's biggest features — its 8MP camera, it does make the device more appealing to the the military crowd. Which is perfect, because that's exactly who they're targeting...
